► Tell us about you and your podcast
Word Vomit Podcast with Emmanuel (Myself), Randy Kings, and a few rotating co-hosts. We delve into the word of video games, comics, music, movies and television. We aim for a demographic 18 to anyone that still loves our topics.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I had gone to school to become a radio DJ, but plans didn't go quite the way I had hoped. I had bought some recording equipment for personal use, and after a bit of motivation, I got some friends together and started recording. I wanted to create something where I could give my point of view in an entertaining manner.
I started recording in 2015, though I had the recording equipment for about a year before I started. Once I recorded the 1st episode, we were off to the races!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I try to have a new podcast up every Monday. There are times when it does take an extra day or 2. After recording, I take a day to edit the audio a bit, remove dead air and remove moments of repeating ourselves to keep a good flow with the conversation.
When working with the co-host I have now, we alternate days of recording. My co-hosts have lives of their own, and I try to make sure they have a Friday or Saturday off to do their own things.
Can't go into too many specifics in regard to actual cost, but we do have an annual fee for service, also replacement of equipment when something goes down, new equipment for different projects, and yearly events we cover. All this comes out of our pockets.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We're looking for sponsorships at the moment, but we first want to have a larger audience. At the moment, everything is at a loss financially. As far as how it's benefitted me, it's a satisfying feeling seeing a constant flow of listeners that tune in to our podcast.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
For recording, I use my Asus Laptop, with a Mackie USB Board, and I've purchased a few different microphones. For recording and editing, we use Adobe Audition 1.5
For the few times we had guests, they actually came to us, and there was one occasion where we used Skype to interview the crew behind the Deadpool Musical.
Throughout the week we look for things going on in our subject matter. We'll pass on to each other what's going on so we can do a bit of research so it doesn't sound like we don't know what we're talking about.
► How do you market your show?
Primarily word of mouth. We did buy some ad space from Facebook at one point, and once we get steady revenue, we'll continue with that route, but with other social media outlets as well.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Don't be afraid to experiment. Do a wacky voice, go a little overboard, have FUN with it. Your best content will be the stuff you're having the most fun with.
