Rachel explains the world of plants to her husband, Sam, who knows nothing of plants

I'm happily married to my co-host, Sam. Now how many podcasts can say that?!? I started this podcast as a way to share my love of plants with others.

Our podcast is all about plants, particularly houseplants. We mostly go over how to care for them, their history, and a little bit of the science behind them.

Our listeners consist of anyone who is wanting to expand their knowledge of plants and better care for them.
 

I decided to start a podcast because I love to listen to them myself. And it's such an easy fun way to share your information with the world.

My motivation for this podcast was honestly to help me cope with being a new mother. I needed some sort of passion project to help me stay growing and learning about something I love.

We started this podcast in August of 2020, we're a podcast baby!

It took us less than a day to release our first episode, we just got up and going!
 

We release an episode every Thursday. And to produce an episode only takes us a few hours each night. (We do it at night when our sweet children are sleeping.)

My husband knows that Tuesday night is set aside for recording, and I do all the research a couple of nights before and have it ready to go for us. It doesn't take too much of our time to be honest.

We have not spent a dime on our podcast yet just because we're so new. We advertise on our Instagram and our personal Facebook profiles for now and plan to expand to other avenues once our podcast is earning more.
 

Currently, we do not have any sponsors, though we'd certainly love one! We're in those early days of a podcast where we need a bigger audience to grab the attention of a potential sponsor. Though we are in the top 100 of gardening podcasts already! We're hopeful that by the time we hit our year mark in August of 2021 we can start reaching out for sponsorship's.

In the meantime, we've been able to take advantage of the Amazon Affiliate program and make some money from people buying any products that we talk about in our podcast.

Podcasting benefits me by allowing me to connect with such a wide audience of people. So many people now feel comfortable coming to me with their plant questions, to design their yard, or for other plant advice and I love the relationships I've been able to grow from it.
 

For now we use Anchor to record, publish, and edit our podcasts. We use a Fifine podcastng microphone and that's been working well for us.

I prepare each episode by thoroughly researching the topic that I've planned and before we record, I go over it with my husband to make sure he's on the same page as me.

I interview guests via Zoom for it's convenience (everyone knows how to use it) and its surprisingly good audio quality. I just make sure the guest knows to be in a quiet place so there's no extra audio coming through.
 

Most of our listeners find us from personal promotion or Instagram. 36% of our listeners use Apple Podcasts and another 34% use Spotify.

With us being so new, we don't have a lot of experience with what marketing channels work best but so far, social media has helped us immensely. Most people seem to find us on Instagram via hashtags or shares from other people.
 

There are so many resources out there to learn from. Youtube videos, for one, offer a lot of incredible advice from experienced podcasters.

Have a clear vision and definition for what you want your podcast to be and start working on it! Your podcast will become better over time, and that's good!
