► Tell us about you and your podcast
Nurture Small Business shares the lessons learned from real-life business owners, their growth strategies, and their survival strategies. My goal is to help small business owners create a thriving workplace.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started Nurture Small Business in March of 2022. With over 20 years of experience in owning one business or another, I have accumulated a wide range of knowledge, experienced a lot of different things, and am well-connected in the world of business. I wanted to use my expertise to help other business owners grow their businesses while also having the opportunity to collaborate with others. Thus, Nurture Small Business was born.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release one episode each week. All my podcast production is done in house and takes about three to five hours to create and edit.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I do not take sponsorships, nor do I monetize my podcast. My goal is simply to share, network, and collaborate with others.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
My podcasts are recorded on Zoom. Then the audio file is taken from Zoom and edited in Audition. I use Buzzsprout for hosting and occasionally will post YouTube videos.
In Season 4 (2023), we are hoping to add an individual blog-style page for some of our guests who want to participate with reciprocal links to bolster organic SEO.
► How do you market your show?
My podcast is featured on all major media outlets, including Apple, Spotify, Google, Listen Notes, Stitcher, iHeart, TuneIn, Podcast Addict, Deezer, and Podchaser. I also market my podcast via newsletters and social media. I have found that a combination of marketing and advertising is most useful.
Breakdown of Top Three Listener Acquisition Sources:
21% - Stitcher 11% - Apple 7% Podcast Addict
Most of my listeners come through direct links, though.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Create a list of criteria for your guests. Once you reach a certain point in your podcast journey, you will start to get a lot of recruiters pitching their guests. Your criteria list will help you determine who to interview and who you do not want to. Communicate clearly with your guests and make sure they are promoting your podcast episode too. Though forms are convenient, keep in mind that filling out a form cannot tell you about a person’s energy level or presence for your audio and video.
