► Tell us about you and your podcast
I’m a passionate company founder, author, yogi, activist and mom and grandmother. My podcast examines the things that we don’t want to look at and that blocks our full enjoyment, peace and power in the world. We address subjects that are taboo or secret, or nuanced, from family systems to trauma. I started the show in late 2020, and have released 70 episodes so far, and hope to have a fraction of the impact on my listeners as the shows I listen to have on me.
The 'Rose' part of the show title is about rising and emergence, and standing up as your authentic self. My listeners are polymaths: people who are interested in learning and growing in many aspects of their lives. Initially the listener base was women over 35, and now it’s about 30% men and 70% women, trending midlife and older.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this show because I thought a vulnerable and exploratory conversation space could help people release blocks to fully feeling the wonder and joy in life. Every time a single person shifts into more freedom and choice, the world gets a little better for everyone. Also, I love to learn, to amplify other people’s work and to cross pollinate ideas from different sectors.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release an episode each week. I reserve two days a month to record interviews, a full day to do tops and tails and research and planning. Its a vital part of my life mission and therefore part of my job, or my dharma. I self-fund the podcast, for now.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Podcasting creates connections with a global network of people who love these kinds of conversations! It builds on the content mission of my company, Rosebud Woman. It’s also a great medium for sharing the wisdom I’ve been collecting from others over the decades: they say "if you know, you owe." Podcasting is a way of paying it forward.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
My process is to set a series of topics and then find guests for those topics, read their material. I record in ACast, do tops and tails locally in Audacity, and then pass them to my wonderful collaborator, Tim Wohlberg, who edits it all, and then we syndicate from ACast.
► How do you market your show?
Marketing is all word of mouth, through my email list, instagram. But mostly, it's people telling other people. I hope to do more of that! Most of our listeners are on iTunes.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Make sure you know your "why", and are committed to being a reliable presence in your listeners lives. There’s a big investment in both time and treasure to do a good show: you have to be committed and driven by a bigger why to sustain the effort and not burn out. I really appreciate Podcast Performance Coach with Tim Wohlberg. A great show and great, free resources.
