► Tell us about you and your podcast
We are Henry and Yuta. Our podcast is called Metagnosis.
The podcast is a weekly conversation between us about philosophy, literature, economics, math, culture, politics and other topics that we find interesting.
Each week we choose a single topic to discuss. Our goal is to investigate each issue from "first principles" in order to investigate the underlying truths and patterns of the various disciplines.
A good place to start is an episode called "The Art of Comedy".
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We decided to podcast after being friends for a couple of years and having had many rewarding conversations in that time. We both started listening to a lot of podcasts at one point, and they became a topic of conversation. We were excited by the ability of podcasts to conveniently distribute longform content, and by the many great shows that were coming out as a result.
We started podcasting about three years ago, but our current show has been up for about eight months. Before that we experimented with various different recording, editing and hosting methods.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release an episode about once a week. The amount of research depends on the topic that week, but it varies from ten minutes to ten hours, with most weeks requiring a smaller amount of hours within that range.
We are both college students but have relatively busy schedules. We carved out a time each weekend and our in-person time spent on the podcast is limited to that time. The preparation we do independently or over text when we have the time.
We spend a small monthly amount on hosting the podcast online. We're self-funded and we have no other expenses.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We have no sponsors. We gain the reward of learning about subjects that we are interested in to a level that would not be possible individually as well as the joy of engaging conversation.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Our mics are Samson Q2U. Editing is done with Logic Pro X and Audacity.
We do not usually invite guests to our podcast. We do have on guests when they express an interest in coming on and talking about a particular topic that we are all interested in.
When recording remotely we use Cast or Zencastr which locally stores each of our audio files and then later syncs them together, ensuring high quality.
► How do you market your show?
We have so far not marketed our podcast really at all, but we are beginning to do so. We believe that feedback would further enrich the show.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I don't know that I'm qualified to give advice. I would say to make sure you're enjoying yourself; if you're bored, your listeners will probably be bored too.
