Our podcast is "Optimal Health Uncovered by Performance" and is all about empowering people to live better. We review and discuss the latest evidence-based research to help give our listeners the tools to improve their health and wellness.
Our listeners is anyone looking to optimize their health.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We have been listening to podcasts for years and always knew we had the knowledge to share with not only our patients and clients, but anyone willing to listen to our take on a variety of health and wellness topics. We are in the business of helping people get better and a podcast that was informative and empowering would be an extension of that message.
We started this podcast during the Covid-19 pandemic to reach an audience that we were unable to serve before. Additionally, many of our patients and clients have transitioned to telehealth or telefitness and we wanted to reach them remotely as well.
We first discussed the dream of actually starting our own podcast years ago but only recently made the decision to purchase the equipment and give it a run a few months ago. It took us about a month to release the first episode.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We plan to release an episode every Tuesday morning. Our production of the first episode took the longest but now that we've completed a few of them, they've gotten easier and quicker. Trying to find time for myself, Mike, Zack (our producer) and any guest we may have to record is the most difficult part. We are very busy with our physical therapy and wellness practice, but we started this podcast in the middle of this Covid-19 pandemic with the notion that fewer patients/clients would allow more time to record.
Our equipment cost us a few thousand dollars to get going as well as a $20 monthly podcast hosting subscription, but we are funded by our health and wellness practice - Performance.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We are a new podcast and may eventually take sponsors or ad money in the future but our goals from the start has been to be a voice to empower people on their path to optimal health. We want to share our opinions with individuals who want to better themselves, improve their health, and know about the latest trends or topics in the wellness field.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use a Rodecaster Pro system for recording and garageband for editing as well as Buzzsprout's audio mastering software for a final cut.
Our guests that we interview are mostly an extension of our physical therapy and wellness business. We have a variety of extremely talented and educated professionals on our team who are experts in their fields which makes finding guests for interview easy.
For each episode, we do our homework and dig into the latest evidence-based research on the topic that we plan to discuss. In today's society of "doctor google," we separate the right information from the wrong or misleading information. Our job is inform our audience of the proven methods in health and medicine in each persons journey towards optimal health.
► How do you market your show?
We market our show through our website and social channels. We're starting with our friends, family, and clients and will see where that leads us to!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Reach out to someone you know (or even someone you dont!) who has started a successful podcast and ask questions. Buzzsprout (our podcast host website) has been our biggest resource. Not only did they answer a million of our questions, but theyre website is extremely user-friendly and makes it easy to upload and start podcasting!
