► Tell us about you and your podcast
I'm a filmmaker that got tired of hearing true crime podcast that give no attention to people of color. So, that's what we do. We focus on missing children, hate crimes, wrongful convictions, and many other offenses.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
There is something about the intimacy of podcast that I love. It's like a friend whispering a secret into your ear. I listen to about 25 podcast a week. However I thought there was a need for stories about people of color. So, we started up about 2 years ago. I'm the creator and luckily we make the podcast for very little. Our team of professionals believe in the cause.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release once a month. It takes about that long to research, write, record, and edit.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I do this because I realize the best way to fight racism is to show how much we all have in common when it comes to crimes. It's a universal plight.
We are on Spreaker and ads run throughout the show. But I'm not doing this for money it's all about the stories.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I research cases for months. I read articles, books, and sometimes I interview the subjects. Then I will write several drafts of the script and finally we record. The last step is editing which takes about a week or two to get right.
Afterwards its all about marketing.
► How do you market your show?
Social media and word of mouth.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Make and keep deadlines. Also don't compare yourself to other more established shows. It takes time to build a audience. Keep working at it and you will find your tribe. Or they will find you. And find a community of podcasters that will support you. Facebook groups are a great place find this.
