► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Lori Morrison and I'm a licensed private investigator. My Christian faith is very important to doing the work that I do. I use my podcast to inform and encourage others to find ways to get out of the audience and into the story by helping victims of crime.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this podcast because I saw how a fellow private investigator was helping people with hers, and wanted to incorporate faith in a way no other true crime podcast was. I wanted to get people involved in helping others in ways they didn't know were possible. I started my podcast 15 months ago after prepping for 3-4 months. I dove in headfirst and haven't looked back!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I drop a new episode every Tuesday after spending 10-15 hours producing it. I fit short bursts of work in around my investigation work. I currently find the cost of the podcast myself, which runs about $200-300 per month between a hosting site, a very part-time research assistant and an audio guy.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I have gained a new world of contact with the guests I interview, and tremendous satisfaction when I help share a victim's story and someone is somehow touched and changed by it. I'm not getting any financial rewards yet but and nearly ready to launch some digital products to hopefully change that.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Podbean as my host site, Audacity and Squadcast to record and edit. I research to find guests, and ask for referrals. I prepare by scripting and writing out questions. I use Squadcast for remote interviews.
► How do you market your show?
So far, I use organic marketing on social media and by appearing on other podcasts.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
For new podcasters, I would definitely say learn as much as you can from people who are already successful. There are lots of free tutorials and paid trainings. Take advantage of them! Find out more about me on FaceBook at The Unlovely Truth or on Instagram, @theunlovelytruthpodcast.
