► Tell us about you and your podcast
I have always been drawn to media. As a kid, I created made-up newspapers. I had a super-8 camera as a kid and made movies. For most of my life, I have been a composer, performer, educator, and now back to being a filmmaker! After doing a ton of interviews about my film and music projects I decided to do them myself. I've been making a lot of music and educational videos over the last few decades, so it wasn't a big jump to create a podcast.
My podcast explores the worlds of music and film. I interview filmmakers, directors, producers, and composers in the media industry. Listeners can be anyone interested in film music.
As a filmmaker (I own 8th Sense Productions, LLC) I have released award-winning films. (see links at the end)

► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Personally, I am not that much of a podcast listener (except "Le Show" by Harry Shearer!). I am constantly researching film and music for my own newsletters, podcasts & teaching (I teach music licensing - getting your music in film and TV). My initial goal was to reach out to filmmakers, and find out how they go about finding composers to score their projects. As I have moved into film production, I am also interested in learning all about filmmaking. The podcast started in February of 2021. The first episode only took a day to produce. I have my own studio for music recording, so adding podcasts was pretty easy and efficient to produce. I use Zoom to do remote interviews with guests, and have an great setup for it.

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I have always been self-employed and full of projects. Making time is mostly a challenge of getting guests scheduled. It takes a few days to record the interviews, edit, and post. I try to release a season of episodes on a weekly basis, although breaks in between episodes do occur.
Marketing your podcast is another animal. I do have newsletters and use social media heavily to post episodes.

► What do you gain from podcasting?
At the moment sponsorship is very minimal, although I may look into it. I do have a Patreon account, and that seems to be the best way to get listeners to support the podcast.
The podcast has opened up many new friendships with filmmakers, and that was really my initial goal. I continue to enjoy learning about filmmaking and interacting with filmmakers as a filmmaker and a composer. It's truly a gift to be able to do this, especially due to Zoom. Good things can come from challenging times!

► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Zoom for recording. I have a nice vocal mic, connected to an interface through my MAC. I edit on Imovie and create finished video and audio files for broadcast. The episodes tend to be around an hour each, and I add visual logos of my company and original music.
I find filmmakers through common film distribution companies I work with and occasionally through social media. I am working primarily with filmmakers that have films in distribution.

► How do you market your show?
I market my podcasts on social media, and through newsletters, I send out regularly. The podcast is fairly new, so I don't have a lot of stats on it.

► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Do what you know. Be nice. Have fun, and keep it interesting. I also do interviews with other podcasts about projects I am working on and use Matchmaker.fm and podcastguests.com as a guest. As a filmmaker I also use blogs to find interviewers and reviewers for my films.

► Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
My website has a ton of information. Because I am also an educator, there's a lot of information there about music, filmmaking, percussion (yes I am a drummer!), etc.
