► Tell us about you and your podcast
Dan Silvestri and Tom Pizzato came from the technology world, and started our show, Cracking the Code of Spy Movies to fulfill our passion for spy movies - from 1935’s Hitchcock spy thriller, The 39 Steps, to modern day spy movies and everything in between especially James Bond!
Focus: Decoding key scenes & hidden connections!
Digging deep into the movies, analyzing key scenes and relationships and influences from and on other spy movies – and real-world influences on the movies as well.
Spy movies, Spy movie topics, interviews & discussions and lots more!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We released our website and first four podcasts in June 2019, because we felt that there needed to be coverage of all spy movies in one place, from the classics to James Bond and new releases!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
SpyMovieNavigator.com, produces all the podcasts, and are released about every 7-10 days. We released 83 podcasts the first 21 months. We are self-funded, and do a lot of research for each podcast.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We do take sponsorships, and are looking for key sponsors now. We have a couple of small sponsors at this time. We launched and were getting about 100 downloads a month, and currently get 2000-2500 downloads a month.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use LibSyn to host our podcasts, use Rode ProCaster to record, and Audacity to edit. We find guests by seeking them out ourselves, authors, people affiliated with spy movies. For interviews, we do a lot of background work, and for movie episodes, we do a lot of research. We use Zoom for interviews and Microsoft Teams.
► How do you market your show?
Cracking the Code of Spy Movies is in all the major podcast apps, and we have Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media outlets.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
It is difficult to get anyone to actually do things through social media - they "Like" photos etc. But getting them to download an episode is tough. You can find our show, Cracking the Code of Spy Movies, in all the major podcast apps, and on our website, SpyMovieNavigator.com and on our social media and YouTube channels.
