► Tell us about you and your podcast
I come from a branding, marketing, customer experience, and digital transformation background, and consult with Fortune 500 organizations in addition to hosting my show.
My listeners come from a mix of marketing, CX and employee experience backgrounds, with a common thread being an appreciation for technology and agile processes.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started the podcast in early 2019 years ago to showcase ideas I had been sharing in my books and articles for publications like Forbes and CMSWire. Podcasting provides a new dimension that I can showcase not only my ideas, but the ideas and thought leadership of my guests.
The podcast gives me an opportunity to interact with some of the industry's leaders, and to gain their insights for my work as well as for the podcast audience.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I was fortunate to have a sponsor that has helped me fund the podcast from the very beginning. Having that support has allowed me to rapidly expand and build out an audience for the podcast, as well as the supporting social media, email, and website channels.
I look at podcasting as part of my day job. Since I consult for top companies, the insights I gain through conversations with industry leaders give me a broader perspective on my work that would be difficult to gain without having nearly 200 conversations so far.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I have a primary sponsor as well as occasional sponsors of individual shows and series. I take on additional sponsors as opportunities arise, and as long as they don't conflict with any existing ones. My audience across podcasting, social media, email, and website traffic form a compelling offer for potential sponsors.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Zencastr to record the show, and I have an editing team that uses Adobe Audition to edit each episode. LibSyn is used to distribute the show.
► How do you market your show?
The majority of my listeners are on Apple, though the audience is diversifying over time. I market using social media channels, an email list, and through my website. My sponsors also promote through their channels as well.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Make sure you have a plan for when things start to take off. Feel free to start small in a manageable way, but make sure you can expand your production to reach an expanding audience when the time comes.
Also, invest in the right recording platform that will give you flexibility in editing and promotion. Do your homework before signing up for something, as your recording platform is going to be a major part of how you create your content.
