► Tell us about you and your podcast
-Nate Wade (Simpleton #1)
Nate fancies himself the leader of the group. Which basically means he's just the biggest nerd of the group. He loves his movies, music and an occasional Popsicle. He is the father of Lemuel, and he digs potatoes (like really digs them...from the dirt).
-Charlie Gibson (Simpleton #2)
Charlie is finally stepping away from being a workaholic, but still investing himself in fine arts and music, through the efforts of Treefort Music Festival, Radio Boise, and an art group that he leads for kids and teens for the Flying M Coffee Garage. He also has a fixation with Movies that railroads a lot of his conversations with people.
-Lemuel Edwards (Simpleton #3)
As Simpleton One likes to remind him, Lem is forever #3. He enjoys video games, maybe a little more than he should. He is lucky his wife hasn't destroyed the Xbox yet. He used to be an avid reader, but again...video games. He would be really happy if you all said hi to him. He's pretty simple.
We call our podcast, The Simpleton Review Podcast: Arts and Entertainment Reviews for the Simpletons. We review movies, music, books, video games, and anything that may be entertainment related. Follow our podcast for a unique take on the review genre. Plus, pop culture news and happiness.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
-Nate has been an avid podcast listener since the days of ipods. His favorite podcasts include WTF with Marc Maron, The Relevant Podcast, and What's Her Name Podcast. A few years ago he tried his hand at podcasting with his first (and still running) podcast.
Everyone Has a Story. Nate has always wanted to talk about all of the nerdy things rattling around in his head (lord knows his wife doesn't want to hear it), so he started the Simpleton Review Podcast with his nerdy friend, Charlie and his nerdy son, Lem.
The Simpleton Review Podcast launched in March of 2020 with our first review of Beck's album "Hyperspace". It was fun, albeit a little rough. Nate had been podcasting for years at this point, but he had never tried to podcast with co-hosts...over zoom.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Finding time to do the podcast is the most difficult part of the process. It is made even harder when you have to coordinate the schedules of 3 people. Currently we publish twice monthly, but will be moving to a weekly release starting in November of 2020. We generally record all of our episodes at the same time, and then release them throughout the month.
Podcasting can be expensive. We have moved to a free podcasting platform. However, we do spend hundreds of dollars of year for website hosting and advertising. Currently, the funding comes straight out of our pockets. But hopefully that will change. It's every podcaster's dream to be able to monetize their podcast someday.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
The majority of gains experienced from podcast come in the form of the pure enjoyment of doing the podcast. At least once a month, we are able to hang out (even if it is on zoom) and talk about the stuff we love. We also like the interaction with the fans of the show.
We would love to take sponsors for our show! If anyone knows of any, send them our way...lol.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Our podcast is also available on Youtube. So our process is kinda crazy. We originally record video on zoom while we each record our audio locally. We then send those files to Nate. Nate then creates the video and the podcast. He spends roughly 3-5 hours per episode between the video and podcast editing.
-We prepare each episode by watching, listening, or reading, the material we are reviewing. We then have to prepare information for our "news" and "happiness" segments. As for the actual recording process, it is not really scripted. Although Nate has a good idea of where he is going with the show, he likes the spontaneity of a loose script.
► How do you market your show?
We use a variety of outlets to market our show. Simpleton Review can be found on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and on it's very own website.
-Listeners can find our show anywhere that they listen to their podcast. We are available on all of the major platforms.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
The best piece of advice we can give new and aspiring podcasters is to make sure your audio is the best you can have. Listeners are forgiving about a lot of things, but audio quality is not one of them. By the best board, mics, and editing equipment you can afford. Also, be prepared. You make like the spontaneity, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be prepared. If you are the host, make sure your know your stuff.
► Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
We have many outlets to find out more about us and our show. But the best place is our website.
