► Tell us about you and your podcast
I'm Cat and recently I have discovered how much I love horror movies. TGIF: A Horror Movie Podcast was created out of that love and sharing that passion with lovers (and some not lovers) of the horror movie genre. It's a nice and easy to listen to podcast where myself and a guest discuss a horror movie that they have chosen for their episode.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I'm a heavy podcast listener, I commute for up to 2.5 hours a day (one way) so I have a lot of time on my hands. I started TGIF because my passion for horror movies had me wanting to talk to other people about their love of horror movies. The podcast launched in August of 2020 and has been going for 18 episodes now, which I am incredibly proud of. It took me about 2 months to release my first episode from announcing that I was going to launch.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Every Friday a new episode of TGIF is released, they are usually recorded in blocks where I will take a weekend or two and record a months worth of episodes with guests. I work full-time so I have had to be very organised with my planning and recording. The podcast is completely self funded, self produced, self edited, self marketed! It's an incredibly rewarding experience.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
There are no sponsorship and I believe because I am in quite a niche genre of podcasting there might not be opportunities. I'm not particularly interested right now though, maybe in the future if the right person or company comes along. Podcasting has built my confidence and helped me find a part of the world where I belong.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use a RODE NT-USB Podcasting microphone with a set of Audio Technica M50 Monitoring Headphones - these are the best products I have used! For software I use audacity because it is free and pretty simple to use. To find guests I usually reach out to people via Twitter or Instagram, I pitch the show and invite them as a guest. Each guest is given a preparation google doc so that they can get prepared for the show. It's completely up to the guest how we record as I have equipped myself with pretty much every video conferencing software that is available.
► How do you market your show?
At the moment the most useful tool is my own channels of social media. The past few weeks I have seen an uptake in episode listens as I have been sharing to promotional groups on Facebook.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
The whole process is one that is unique to the person - the only advice I have is 100% plan everything and decide what brand look you are going for.
► Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
I'm across all social media at TGIFPOD_
