► Tell us about you and your podcast
Nelly and Juno are co-hosts of the podcast, Two Addys and a Coffee, Please. They are both Asian American women who have been friends for over a decade and struggled with undiagnosed ADHD for the majority of their lives. We chat about our mental health journey, dropping out of college, dating, being vulnerable, Asian American experiences, and many other topics. We invite other mental health experts, entrepreneurs, authors, and others to join these vulnerable conversations.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Our friendship helped us get through difficult times and validated each other when everything else minimized our experiences. After many conversations on our shared struggles, we were inspired to create a podcast to share their authentic stories about anxiety, ADHD, bipolar, and various other topics as a means to normalize such conversations and change how our society views mental health.
We were inspired by a friend who suggested for us to start a podcast because she was fascinated by how we think and relate as a result of our shared ADHD experiences. And so, we embarked on the journey of podcast creation pumping out 4 episodes in a month from starting! We're driven by providing others a welcoming space to be authentically themselves and feel validated in their own struggles with mental health.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
In our day job, we both work in tech - carving out time on the weekends and after work to produce content for the podcast. We spend a week planning, recording, editing, and publishing an episode. This podcast is a fully self-funded initiative.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We enjoy meeting interesting and ambitious individuals with a story worth sharing. This podcast has allowed us to become intentionally more vulnerable and authentic with ourselves and others. A two-woman show, we've proven to ourselves our ability to create, produce, market, and launch a podcast with no previous experience in content creation or social media marketing. We've since gained sponsors and collaborations, and hopefully start more projects!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use anchor, squadcast, and descript to record and edit our episodes. We prepare each episode with a high-level outline and stories to share; we like to keep our conversations free-flowing and casual.
► How do you market your show?
Our podcast can be found on iTunes, Google, Spotify, and major podcasting platforms. Social media has been our most-used channel for marketing.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Don't get discouraged and just do it!
