► Tell us about you and your podcast
This is a show dedicated to helping & educating Indie authors, and creatives. Not only that, we celebrate all things entertainment, occasionally dipping the show's toes into movies and having guests from different industries on the show. We are building a community & are having fun in the process. We open our arms to welcome any indie #author, no matter their style, ability, or genre. This community is open to #book, #film & game fans too! We interview indie authors, established #authors, & other creatives too. There is no limit to this shows potential & family size and we do our best to promote them & their #books! There are regular book buy competitions, there is a new, useful and free promotion tool called The WCCS book launch show & all of these things are free to The WCCS community.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this podcast to give back to the amazing writing community on Twitter that was instrumental in helping me launch my self-published books. Without them, I would not have my books or this show.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Who knows! This is time-consuming and up until recently, I hosted 2 live shows a week, every week for over a year. I now have one show a week with the odd special second. I love what I do and it has grown my creative side into a monster. I love creating graphics, marketing, and producing. I have a lot to learn but in no way am I put off by the effort and time I need to commit. I spend almost every day playing with social media or creating business plans or media. This is done outside my family time and working hours.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I am trying to create my digital community and turn it into a real live one! The podcast was the start, which grew into a live-streaming YouTube show and it's still growing. I am in the process of creating a social enterprise business called Cafe Script. This will be an amazing hub for creatives. A place to relax and read. A place to write, design, learn and publish books. It will link in with schools and writing clubs, with the idea of growing and growing. The community can support this idea through my Patreon.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
My process has been fine-tuned for minimal work. Possibly lazy, possibly efficient! I live to stream my interview/panel show and they remain on YouTube with very small adjustments made post-show. I strip the MP3 from the stream and edit that in audacity. I then upload that to Anchor with some pre-made stings. The top tip is utilizing StreamYard for all the work. When I schedule the show I fill out all the details fully. Then when it comes to YouTube and the Podcast, I already have the information to simply copy and paste into place.
► How do you market your show?
I post my show to all the major providers but I use Twitter often. This is where the community is. Not just the writing community but also the community that has formed around the show. I have a 51% USA listener base despite being from the UK. 36% of listens are through Apple Podcasts. 60% male listeners with the most common age group of 35 - 44.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Spread the news before launch. Try to create a buzz and be sure to have at least 3 episodes ready for the launch. Launch all 3 at the same time. It would be a huge shame to attract a keen listener and for them to then forget about the show before the next episode is ready.
