► Tell us about you and your podcast
Chandi and I originally had the idea of starting a podcast where we talk to people about their unique experiences while sipping coffee at a diner.
We decided to start this podcast as a way to explore topics that people find difficult to talk about openly and honestly. IT's all about presenting people with an opportunity to tell their stories and voice their opinions without judgement. We wanted to hear interesting and unique stories about the lives of other people and try and delve deep in to these stories and topics to spark conversations.
Our listeners seem to be people who are similar to us in a way, they crave knowledge and information. They love learning about new things or learning more about a particular topic. They also have a "thing" for true crime. It's all about the details of a story or a case and that's what our listeners love about our podcast. We like to get the details that can really shape a story. While not all of our episodes are true crime, we are definitely true crime adjacent.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Podcasts are a great way to get a message out to the world and spark the types of conversations we want to have.
I do listen to quite a few podcasts. I listen to more true crime, storytelling and paranormal podcasts. Chandi, on the other hand, listens to more psychology and social science based podcasts.
We started this podcast in early 2021. We released our first episode in March of 2021.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release a new episode every other week, which is basically two episodes a month.
It's not easy working full time and producing a podcast but we find the time. We fund the podcast ourselves and I honestly don't know how much we spend off the top of my head. I'd say it's quite a bit lol.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We currently don't have any sponsorships but are definitely open to it.
Podcasting has been a great way to meet all kinds of people from all over the world. It's an amazing experience. You learn a lot about yourself and others as well.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use pretty decent Shure microphones, a fairly basic audio editor and a DAW for final production.
We spend roughly a month or two looking for guests for the upcoming season and get our interviews and recordings done. Editing takes the longest so we try and go through three or four rounds of editing for an episode until we get the final cut.
We use zoom, the phone and other recording software as well.
► How do you market your show?
Our listeners find our shoe through social media like Twitter and Instagram as well as through ITunes, Google Spotify and other podcast apps.
Instagram has been really helpful, as well as Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and just reaching out to other resources and organizations.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Editing takes a really really long time.
Being fully prepared for an interview and doing your research is extremely important.
Guests are just people so try and act as relaxed and normal as possible, no matter how well known or famous they are.
You can't be afraid to put yourself out there.
