► Tell us about you and your podcast
I am someone who grew up constantly wavering between political affiliations. Whether that be going to church and adopting more conservative values or just being black gaining more liberal values. That would also include the fact that I was in the military and went to a liberal arts school. There's so many different views I was able to interact with to evolve my own viewpoint. However when I see current political discourse it's so negative and toxic and downright hateful. I didn't believe proper solutions can be found under this current climate, and with most people on the left and right even refusing to speak with the other side. My podcast provides a platform to bridge the two sides and maybe create more productive solutions with the proper nuance that will start pushing our society forward. With that said the podcast is all about those conversations that need to be had, and allowing the people to come on and share their perspective. The core behind these conversations is to find solutions so I don't always agree with the other person and many times I challenge their beliefs. These are necessary to evolve conversation further because an echo chamber can oftentimes reinforce a bad idea and make it worse. From what I found the listeners have appreciated this willingness to have great conversations and although many people believe this is an uphill battle considering the current political climate. I truly believe I'm the perfect person to take on this task.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I believe podcasting is a great platform considering it allows for long form conversation. Instead of clipped moments or highly edited videos as the means of entertainment. Podcasts utilize the importance of what is being talked about itself as the priority way of entertaining and informing the audience. The podcasts I listen to normally are sports podcasts because I have an interest in sports and learning more about what's going on. I also listen to a few political podcasts to hear different perspectives about issues going on. My initial goal and current goal to be honest when podcasting is to inform people and inspire people to help push society forward and not letting political toxicity dictate our lives. I started my podcast around summer of last year. It took around a few weeks for me and my former co host to release our first episode.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release an episode about once a week, every Monday 8am est. I hope to start posting twice a week for Thursdays 8am est. Doing a podcast can take a bit of time so I try to manage my time efficiently to work on them in the Evenings as best I can. As for the funding that comes out of my pockets and I do everything myself.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I'm still looking for sponsorships for the podcast and I am particular on the message the sponsorships are sponsoring.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
The software I tend to use are streamlabs OBS and Streamyard, the combination of the two when recording/streaming the show. Then I use wondershare filmora to edit everything from the audio and the video. As for the guests of the show I use social media platforms, get direct emails or I use a platform called podmatch which enables me to get connected with other podcasters. I usually always have a guest or it's just me and my co hosts and research is important for the topics we discuss. The goal is to come up with solutions so research of the topic is essential. I didn't do an interview before the show.
► How do you market your show?
I'm still learning the best marketing strategies for my show. They come from many different platforms from spotify, to apple or even google podcasts. Overall it's hard to measure the ratio of listeners per platform. I feel like the most useful way to reach out is personal messages to individuals to see if they may be interested.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I would advise people to keep grinding and keep learning about the podcast game. I'm still learning myself but if you give up just because you're not hitting a desired goal or you start comparing yourself to others. Then you will never succeed.
Also searching videos on youtube is helpful but also finding platforms that actively try to help creators gives you a personable response to how to grow.
