► Tell us about you and your podcast
Me and Nick started Geekable out of a love for comic books and all things related to the medium. We met about five years ago and instantly connected over our shared passion. Geekable is more than a podcast, it's a community and a safe space for people who enjoy comics. a space where we discuss the latest news, review comic book related media, interview amazing creators like Kelly Thompson and industry legends like Arthur Adams. And overall just have a great time with our listeners and followers who care about the world of comics as much as we do
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We decided to start Geekable because me and Nick have this weekly phonecall where we discuss all the latest comics and just rant and voice our opinions! At some point we were like, maybe we should share this with other people. And so Geekable was born. We didn't really have high expecations going into this and we knew that we were talking a somewhat niche topic but we've been very fortunate to have established a solid listenerbase that appreciates what we do and the hard work that goes into it! We started Geekable back in April. and within weeks we were ready to launch! Our first episode aired on May 4th 2021 (may the 4th be with you)
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release episodes on a weekly basis. Sundays are Geekable days! Due to the vast time difference between NIck and myself, we usually record once a week at like 1am my time. And I edit the episode myself and design the promotional material so that we can release it! We do guerilla marketing to get our name out there and reach out to comic book fans and hope that they check us out!
► What do you gain from podcasting?
a sense of community, more than anything. We haven't monetized Geekable in any way as of the time of writing this. we just do it out of a shared love for the medium and all things about it! We got the chance to meet some amazing people and cultivate a small community that we're so thankful to have found. and our friendship grows every day we work on Geekable together
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We record our episodes via zoom because we're in two different parts of the world. We got identical microphones to make sure our audio quality was at least on a similar level. And we prepare each episode by rdoing research on the topics to make sure that we have our facts straight! When we're interviewing guests, I take time to re-read a lot of their works so I can have relevant questions regarding their content!
► How do you market your show?
We find our audience mostly via social networks! Instagram and Twitter to be precise. We communicate with fellow lovers of comics and we just.. pitch ourselves to them! And if they take a listen and they enjoy our show, they tend to stick around and become very active members of our community!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Just have fun with it. I know, I know. sounds cliched, but trust me. Don't go into this expecting a quick buck and fame or fortune. Do it for the love of whatever you wanna talk about! We all have passions and a lot of us are pretty opinionated. So if you're starting a podcast, make sure you're doing it because you love it and because you have somehting to say!
