► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Rachel Duffy, I'm the host of the Unscrew You podcast and I explore the intersection between parenting and entrepreneurship. I talk about parenting from angles you wouldn’t expect. My listeners are parents, many of them entrepreneurs, and we talk about how parenting and entrepreneurship are vehicles for growth, what parallels we can draw between parenting and entrepreneurship and most importantly - how can we shift our perspectives so we become more effective in parenting??
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I LOVE collaborating and talking with people. I started the podcast to have a way to have interesting conversations with people and share and build a community. That's the focus of it for me, because I know that what I talk about with my guests and on my solo episodes has the power to transform lives, so it's very service oriented.
I started the podcast in March 2020, I recorded 4 episodes in advance and then released them and I batch my content creation so it's not a scramble from week to week.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
My episodes release once a week, I fund it myself and I host on Libsyn. I do pay for editing, but overall I don't find it a prohibitive cost.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I find podcasting a creative channel in my overall evolution as a parenting coach. It helps me clarify messaging, practice teaching, network with like minded individuals.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I record all episodes on Zoom. Then I take the audio file and give it to my editor who cleans it up, then my VA clips out an audio clip, video clip, and creates a social media meme. I give those assets to guests so they can promote on their platforms too.
I outline what I want to cover in an episode, but I don't script it because I like it when the episode flows. When I have a guest I look into their work, I get familiar with what they do, I try to ask questions that are deeper than surface level obvious questions.
► How do you market your show?
I market on Instagram and LinkedIn, and through SEO on Google. For me, the podcast platform is part of my general messaging and marketing eco system, so its not the only channel I use, but it's by far my favorite!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I think the important thing is to love what you're doing and what you're talking about. Podcasting is great fun if you love talking and sharing via audio. I love using auphonic to help level the audio, especially when I'm interviewing a guest who may be doing the interview virtually, so our audio quality may or may not be equal.
