My name is Nigel Walton, I am the producer of the Backable Podcast which is Hosted by Tim Krotiris CEO of the Philotimo Group, a business performance advisory and private investment group.

Backable is a podcast that explores the top performance habits of people from all walks of life through a small business lense. Our aim is to give our audience a look behind the curtain of business' and individuals who have achieved success in their field and the tools to apply it in their own lives.

I am an avid listener to podcasts of every genre. The format gives us the ability to become a part of other peoples lives and feel like you are part of a larger conversation. for a mass broadcasting tool, it is extremely intimate and I feel a strong connection to those I listen to.

Our initial goal in starting Backable was to help as many small business owners as we could with access to higher-level tools and thought processes than they may have previously had access to, through sharing of our own experiences in growing companies and providing access to others. this goal has only strengthened during COVID as the pressures on small business have mounted.

We started the podcast in January 2020. (foolishly) Launching with 5 episodes a week quickly reaching 90 episodes then after studying the data of what our audience wanted to hear dropped back to a single high-quality episode per week featuring more international guests.

Everything we do is self-funded. I am lucky, For me, it is a full-time job. From concept to launch is usually a two-week turnaround, with post-production taking about a day, including building advertising assets. youtube editing etc. It is good to note though that we have spent very little on ad spend etc, organic growth and clear strategy have helped us achieve most of our growth.

We have not taken on any sponsors until this point as we wish to self-fund and maintain autonomy. The benefits for us are great though in brand awareness, building relationships with other quality business owners around the world and also in attracting SME owners to join our private Facebook group facebook.com/groups/backable where we can add more value and get direct feedback and input for the podcast.

We use Rode Podcaster pro and rode podmics with editing completed through the adobe suite, the link between premiere and audition is a lifesaver when cutting both video and traditional podcasts.

We interview guests both in studio and remotely using a combination of squadcast for audio and zoom for video components.

Guests are fund through a combination of personal approach, trolling guest booking sites and the most successful method we have found is simply asking a current guest at the end of the interview if they know anyone in their network that they believe would be a good fit for the podcast and if they'd be willing to introduce us.

New Listeners are attracted through our marketing efforts- weekly EDM, multiple posts on Facebook, linked in, Instagram both pre promoting episodes, then back promoting our back catalogue, highlight clips.

We also by provide content for distribution partners and leverage our guest network by getting them to promote their appearance through their own social channels.

Easy one learnt the hard way. Don't overcommit. Set a schedule, hit the schedule and don't deviate from it for a set time. Also, create seasons in your show, so you can have built-in breaks in your schedule that the listeners expect, this gives you time to look at whats worked, what hasn't, make the changes and come back recharged.
