► Tell us about you and your podcast
This is my first podcast, and though I wanted it to be meaningful and entertaining, I also intended for it to be an authentic and naturally unfolding conversation with my dad, whom I've often found tension and a bit of animosity in relating to; despite the fact that we love each other very much.
I also wanted to put s spotlight on the divisive narratives in the world, and show that they are NOTHING MORE THAN differing perspectives. If you listen to the bonus episode: Why We Produced This Show, you will get the entire intent behind why we created this podcast.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I listen to a fair amount of podcasts, but the reason I created this one is to be an avenue of self-expression that I think might help tense relationships where uncomfortable conversations are too difficult or taboo. This is my attempt to help bridge the divide of all the tension and division in families and the world at large.
My dad and I said yes to this endeavor so we could do something fun together, and make a difference.
It took us a few months to get our act together and sit down to do our first recording. After that, we met every week for (so far 15 weeks) and recorded that week's episode of a 16-episode Season One.
I will do Season Two a bit different so I can really produce the show thoughtfully and with more production value; although I've gotten many accolades about the way the show is currently produced.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Our episodes drop every Thursday. It takes me about a day to produce an episode from rough cut to final edit. I'm a pretty fast learner and, like my dad, tenacious and very focused. I could use some finessing of my skills, but I'm pretty happy with this being my trial season. Listeners like it, so that makes me/us happy.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I don't have official sponsorships yet, but I am open to them in Season Two. I do a shout-out to a particular organization that I think is also committed to dissolving the abyss of division in the world. They inspire, so I mention them to my listeners to people will (quite literally) check them out! : ) [you'll understand that once you listen to a few episodes]
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I interview my dad remotely, then edit and post to my hosting site. Pretty straight-forward.
► How do you market your show?
I use a bit of social media, but like I said— this is a season of pressing 'record', adding some fun voiceover and watching things unfold. No intense bell and whistles— YET.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Just do it. Don't wait until you have everything perfect. Just go.
I believe creative brilliance happens in the moment, not in some polished, scripted attempt at perfection. People can tell when you're trying too hard. Just join the natural rhythm of what you are attempting to convey.
