► Tell us about you and your podcast
We are a 5th edition real play Dungeons and Dragons podcast run by six friends. A band of semi-merry adventurers gets tangled up in all kinds of nonsense on the shell of a broken world, all orchestrated by DM Joe. Our listeners are fans of storytelling, adventure, and terrible jokes.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We started this podcast primarily as a way of making sure everyone would set aside time to play D&D! But as it's grown, we've continued because we're telling an interesting and exciting story, and we want to share it. We also think it's important to show people that running a D&D podcast doesn't require professional voice actors. We started TAC in 2018, and it only took a couple weeks to post the first episode!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Our podcast posts new episodes weekly. Episode production time can vary, as a lot of it is dependent on how much writing needs to be done for each week's adventure. Typically, each episode takes between 2-3 hours prep (writing), an hour to record, and about an hour and a half to edit and clean up the audio. It isn't always easy to find time for it; most of the work is done during the weekend. We do fund this podcast ourselves, paying for hosting on Podbean.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
The Alchemist Club is completely sponsor free as of right now! The primary benefit of this podcast for us is that it makes sure that everyone shows up to play D&D, but it's also an excellent and fun way to tell a story.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Our podcast is done through a Discord voice channel, the audio of which is recorded through OBS. Editing is done in Audacity. Episode prep for the DM is mostly writing and planning out NPCs, encounters, and various situations the party may come across in each episode.
► How do you market your show?
We have accounts on Twitter and TikTok where we share about new episodes, connect with our audience, and are apart of the larger DnD and TTRPG community! Our podcast can be found on just about every major Podcast platform out there. Feel free to let us know if it is not on one yet!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Always do soundchecks! You'd be amazed how many headaches you'll be spared when you take a few minutes to make sure everyone is audible and picked up by your recording software.
