► Tell us about you and your podcast
I have a small personal podcast that I use as almost therapy for myself and as an opportunity to have deep conversations with people who interest me. I was in a really bad place during the end of my senior year and I need a way to either express myself of distract myself. I ended sinking money into some microphones and an audio interface and then began my podcast. So far my listeners are just friends and a few people from here and there around the world. It's nice while it's small since I can have more community interaction.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I love podcast and love talking with people. So what other choice did I have but to start my own? I also love writing so not every episode is with someone else, I like to vent and the best long form way is through my podcast. shortly after buying everything and getting the premise set up I took me about a week to upload my first episode and every week since I've put up another one.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Like I said, each week I put up a new episode and generally it takes me three to four days to make and edit the episode. if it's and interview it's a lot shorter but the solo episodes require a whole script. Most of my spare time outside of my day job goes towards my podcast but when you love what you do it almost feels like a break instead of more work. All I paid for was equipment and all the hosting and marketing I've done for free through social media and other things, having a solid foundation is much cheaper than one would think.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I have no sponsors and gain no money from my podcast, everything I do is completely for my own enjoyment and just therapeutic. I don't have many listeners or downloads each month but that just makes the ones I do have all the more special. I'm happy to get a chance to express myself each week and do some introspection. It also allows me to give other people an opportunity to hear all the thoughts rattling in my mind.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
All I use for my podcast is audacity. it is a pure life saver. Since I'm not particularly famous, after running through the roster of my friends, finding interviews is particularly difficult. However, I find people that interest me and do my best to reach out to them. before each interview we talk for a little while and discuss our topics and then go from there, using that talk as a warm up. For solo episodes, I write out an entire script after finding a topic that really interests me and go from there.
► How do you market your show?
I'm not actually sure how more people come to the channel. I'm on itunes, spotify, and most other podcast hosting sites. I use instagram as my main social media but I seem to garner more people than actually exist there so they seem to just be coming out of the pipe works. as I grow and have more time I plan on doing more professional marketing but until then I work with what I got.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
The thing that has helped me the most is listening to other podcasts, finding things you truly love, and being as passionate as you can. They're all cheesey for sure but it's the same with any art. if you don't know what the goods are like, you're gonna suck. And if you don't like what you do, no one is gonna be interested.
