In this episode, I have the great pleasure to speak with the author of “Own Your Opportunities: A Story of Self-Discovery and Self-Determination” and leadership advisor Juliet Hall about the importance of owning your opportunities and manifesting your dreams and deep desires. We talk about how self-discovery and staying true to yourself are integral parts of success, while authenticity has no competition.
Juliet explains that money adds to happiness, but that true happiness is internal. By tapping into your dreams and natural gifts, often revealed during childhood, you can grow inwardly, which then manifests outwardly. This comes by having a blueprint, a trusted and tested vision as well through planting seeds and nourishing and cultivating them. By working hard and trusting the process, you can manifest and realize your most cherished dreams.
00:23: Personal Intro:
Leadership advisor. Doing consulting and coaching. Also speaker and author. Owning your opportunities and taking responsibility. “We have to be very diligent in discovering ourselves first.” The “genesis of true leadership”. Our culture does not encourage us to self-manifest, self-actualize, and self-maximize. Understanding and recognizing the gift that is inside of you and acting upon it.
02:07:
“Fail at fitting in”. If you really want to stand out, you have to be an original. Being recognized and known for something. Authenticity has no competition. You’re told one thing but expected to live on a different track. Defying what culture is telling you to do and doing what you're born to do.
02:57:
Thinking outside of the box. Not allowing other people to define success for you. Money adds to happiness, but true happiness is internal. Money and power do not change a person, they only bring out what's inside of them. It's a magnifier. Money is replaceable, but time is not. At the height of her career, she was her most miserable.
06:03:
Doing what you love and what gives you joy. Example of entertainment industry during the pandemic. If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right. Or you’re not doing the right thing. Intersection of what you have to do and what you do well. Natural gifts and prosperity.
07:27:
Growing up and the pressure of being realistic. Culture, parents, teachers telling kids that they got to be responsible now. The importance of dreams, there's always another level. We always have something to reach higher towards.
10:26:
Your job is not who you are. It can help you discovering and becoming who you are. Learning about yourself and a natural extension of yourself. Somehow we forget about things we love to do. Many people have forgotten their gifts. Like in childhood, when you feel free and relevant, doing what you love most, you have to remember those feelings. We bury the gifts inside of us.
14:51:
The longer you delay and hesitate, the harder it is to manifest. You need time. You have to trust the process. The oak tree starts as a seed. Comfort zone versus being open to new opportunities to try something scary so that you can discover more about yourself.
17:32:
Negativity and voices of opposition from different sources. Don't compare yourself. Be careful with social media. We often discourage ourselves.
19:31:
You got to plan for manifesting your dreams, to create a blueprint for you to thrive. One opportunity begets another opportunities so keep going. That's how you grow. But you have to be consistent, building up the muscles of endurance inside of you.
22:17:
We need those hard lessons. Every vision has to be tested. You have to be tested before you can be trusted. Through adversity, low finances, and rejection. The difficulties of traditional publishing. The example of The Beatles, who never gave up.
25:06:
What makes good leadership? John Maxwell and influence. Self-discovery and leading from your strengths. But you have to identify that. You have to develop and share your gifts with the world. Best leaders serve through their gifts. Think about what really stirs you up and what makes you angry. You can lead you to a purpose of your life.
27:22:
Importance of honesty. Trust with others through vulnerabilities and shared humanity. Lead is an action verb. Moving people from point A to point B. Movement and progression. Humility. Difference between character and reputation: Character is who you are. Reputation is what others say about you.
30:07:
Great leaders really understand the people. Take the time to get to know them and their stories, building relationships with them, and communication.
30:54:
On trying too hard. Seeing the manifestations of the seeds you have sown. Sowing seeds and planning the right ones, nurturing and cultivating them, trusting the process. Growth happens inwardly before it happens outwardly. The period of waiting, which is hard. Not seeing the fruit of your efforts, but you have to believe in the process, the germination, and the growth.
