► Tell us about you and your podcast
My podcast began with stories of my life. I got married at 16 and with the traumas I have experienced I felt impelled to serve the community of listeners. Most of my listeners are women with an increasing male audience. We discuss topics from marriage and family to financial independence and life's taboo topics.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I began listening to podcasts in 2018 when my life was took a huge turn. I almost divorced my husband and fell into a real dark depression. Podcasts like Jay Shetty's "On Purpose" gave me hope. Sometimes we feel alone or are very private about our lives, but listening to others tell their testimonies, empowered me to tell mine. The goal for me to help others feel a sense of hope remains today. I started my podcast a year ago and it has grown at a very good rate. It took me a good month before I released my first episode. It was new to me and editing was not my strength.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release an episode per week during a regular season. It takes about 2-3 hours to produced an episode on average when I have a guest. Otherwise an hour. People seem like the shorter episodes anyhow if I am the only voice of the show for the day. I work a full time and a part time job aside from life coaching. I keep my days and hours organized so that I ensure I am productive. I even pencil in my off time so I can secure my rest when needed. I do not spend any money. I only bought a great headset and began to record.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I do not take sponsorship. I record my podcast for the service I can provide others of information nd hopefully deliver a sense of hope. I do look forward to sponsorship in the near future.
True Lessons benefits my communication skills. I am able to tell my story to a person who has never met me. It provides a platform where no one can shut me up. Technically they can mute me or not listen at all (LOL) but I will continue to deliver a message to the listener as long as they listen.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use audio technica as the mic/headset and Anchor as the platform of my choice. I use Zoom when recording interviews with guests and anchor depending on the conversation and how comfortable the guest is with video. I always jot down questions for guests or bullet points and let the conversation flow as naturally as possible but with some structure.
► How do you market your show?
I share the show via Instagram and Facebook and in person. Whenever I meet someone, I share my podcast with them and hope that they can share also. The goal is that the lessons i have learned can give others hope like i have felt over the years through listening.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I used to speak very fast and now I have slowed my talking and became a better listener which also helped me with my life coaching skills. Being a better listener in general would help with the speaking aspect because you will speak less of low quality messages and only or speak more of message that can and will resonate with your audience. You do not need to fill up every second with a word. Give the listeners a chance to process what you are saying.
