Two former college roommates who make Best Darn Diddly, a Simpson's Podcast

The Best Darn Diddly Review Show is a weekly podcast for anyone who loves The Simpsons, or ever has loved The Simpsons. The show's hosts, Miles aka Mr. Most Days Off and Richie the WIz Kid, are former college roommates and current best friends who both grew up on The Simpsons.

Miles: We started Best Darn Diddly in August of 2016, I was invited to co-host a wrestling review show earlier that year and I fell in love with the format. I had already been listening to various podcast's for years up until that point and once I got a taste of doing it myself I knew this was something I wanted to do more of and I knew that I had a perfect if not reluctant co-host in mind.

Richie: I'm still not 100% certain what a podcast is. I literally just found out that these conversations have been recorded since August of 2016.

Richie: We asked Mr. Burns for a loan, confusing us for the Pillsbury dough boy, he wholeheartedly agreed!

M: Yea having the small loan of a million dollars to get started was super helpful!

R: Our first plan involved a lot of time on the street corner.

M: More seriously, as far the money goes, that was easy, we barely spent any. We still to this day use free recording and editing software. We have however upgraded our mic's significantly since the one's we started the show with which cost about $12 each on Amazon.

R: We sounded like dying giraffe's.

M: Yea, the sound quality on the early show's isn't great but we are still very proud of the content. And as far as the time goes my nickname, Mr Most Days Off, used to be a lot more literal when we were starting this show up.

R: And I work nights so it's easy to record the show during the day.

M: It's hard to put this into words. Podcasting has literally opened doors that I could have never seen coming when we started the show. Through this process I have made friends with other podcasters who are now some of my favorite people. We have both also had the opportunity to talk with some really cool people that we have managed to book as guests on our show. We have had, authors, filmmakers and even two Simpsons writer's join us to review and discuss The Simpsons. The financial gain's, not so much, but we're working on it!

R: Yea, we have made a lot of really great friends because of our love for The Simpsons which I think everyone has some kind of connection to. Unfortunately most of these "friends" are weird wrestling people!

M: Yea, that's probably my fault. Like I said, I actually got started in podcasting on a wrestling podcast which may of had some carryover and I mostly tweet while watching wrestling so it happens.

R: My twitter feed is always full of wrestling references. Which I absolutely love. That was sarcasm by the way.

M: To get back on topic about gains from podcasting, we do have a really cool sponsor in PopThreads.com. R: Which by coke, he meant Diet Coke, which we hope to be a future sponsor!

M: By strippers, I meant strippers!

R: I am going to start my own podcast with black jack and hookers!
 

M: Our process is pretty simple, we use skype to connect with each other, we both record our own audio independently on Audacity and then I edit the show and add music and ads also using Audacity. After an incident where a guest failed to record themselves for a huge chunk of conversation I did purchase some Skype recording software so now I always have a back up copy of the audio.

R: To book guests for our show, Miles literally tweets then DM's people on Twitter. He just breaks them down slowly with tweets until they follow him back. This is a scientifically proven method to get people to like you back, that's how he won me over. Even though we met before twitter was a thing.

M: Other than the obvious chronological inconsistencies with what he just said that's sadly not too far from the truth. I try to engage with as many interesting people on twitter as I can, so if you're a celebrity of any sort who has ever made a Simpsons joke or reference on Twitter you are probably on my radar. Except for Ted Cruz, I don't think he gets the show.

M: This is honestly the hardest and most frustrating part of podcasting in my opinion. There are so many great podcasts out there and we want to be one of them. Growing can be a very slow process sometimes but we just keep trying to make the best show we can and use social media to spread the word as much as possible.

R: Honestly the best thing to do is reach out to podcasts that you enjoy. The podcasting community is a very supportive group and you can always find someone who can help you through issues. Also, pick a topic that already has a huge built in fan base. Something like The Simpsons, but not The Simpsons, dibs.

M: More importantly than that is to pick something you love and that you want to dive into week after week. If we genuinely didn't love The SImpsons, this would be a miserable experience because there is not a day that goes by that I don't talk about The SImpsons. Also, if you're thinking about doing a podcast, stop thinking about it and just do it! It's not hard, Richie and I are basically a couple of Homer's who bought cheap microphones and learned how to press the record button. The most important thing is find something you love, and if possible someone you would love to talk to every week and start recording. You will figure out the rest and listeners will find you as you go along.
