► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Forrest Sundstrom and together with my friends Nate, Carlo, and Bryan, we became four guys, probably unqualified to talk about what we do, who take on geek culture and their daily lives to reminisce, complain, and praise all that they see and hear. It isn’t meant to be taken too seriously. For anyone who likes television, comics, the web, food, sports, and more. Though it’s for anyone, Gen Xers and older Millennials probably would get the most out of its references.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
After having worked in radio for some years some of my favorite segments on radio shows is when the hosts will just talk with one another about their days and the odd things they notice or have happen to them. Those segments got fewer and fewer after radio began to change, and having heard a bunch of other podcasts with subpar quality I decided it wouldn’t be hard to do my own. I gathered friends and we set out to do a slice of life podcast with good quality audio and on August 2, 2011 we put out our first show after about a month or so of brainstorming and gathering equipment.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release our podcast once a week on Tuesdays which is recorded on Saturdays as it is the day we can all get together. The podcast is funded by ourselves as any other hobby we have would be.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
The podcast is really a hobby. Though we would like to make some money off it that has never been a goal. I personally just like having a show out there someone can download and maybe have a laugh while they decompress over a stressful day.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Each week we bring in notes of the things we’ve seen or want to talk about. We set up our board, do a little testing and then hit record. After a little editing it’s ready to release. Guest are live when we have one but it's not a focus of our podcast.
► How do you market your show?
We use twitter mostly for our marketing. We got ourselves on iTunes as well but we’ve grown ourselves slowly over the time we’ve been active mostly due to the hobby nature of the show. It could be better I won’t lie.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Audio quality really matters. You could have the best show around but if it’s difficult to hear, has muted voices, reverb, distortions, or uneven levels you’ll have people click off quickly. If you’re going to do a podcast make sure you invest in good mics and a board. Have fun with what you do. No one wants to listen to people bored with themselves.
