► Tell us about you and your podcast
LIFE WITH DUBISTHENAME was first made to talk about my life in the music industry and everything I am doing for my music and life then I changed my mind because I listen to music every time and I would love to tell someone about the song I listened to. Now every Saturday I release an episode about a song which I listened to on Friday because new music comes out every Friday and I say my opinion about the song.
To be honest, my listeners are mostly my families because when I bring out a new episode I send the link to every one of my family, my cousins, my mom, my sister, but most of the listeners are people who are in France I don't know how they hear my podcast but I look at the demographics and I see like 10 people from France listened to the new episode, I'm happy at the same time wondering who those people are.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I do not listen to a lot of podcasts, to be honest, I listen to just one podcast, I don't even keep up with their episode but I don't really know the reason why I started a podcast but what I can think of is because I helped my sister start a podcast and after she stopped doing her podcast, I just thought to myself that a podcast would be nice to do then it happened I made the trailer of the podcast the next Saturday I made the first episode. I started my podcast on January 30th, 2021 and my initial goal was for someone to listen to the podcast so that I won't be making the podcast for ghosts lol.
It took me a week to release the very first episode of the podcast.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release an episode weekly which is every Saturday. It takes a few hours to produce an episode because I would have to search and download all the songs needed in each episode, record the episode which takes me about 20- 30 mins to record and after recording it takes about 10 mins to edit the podcast and after all that I would have to release the podcast on the two podcast hosting platforms "Castbox" and "Sounder. FM" and add all the details of the podcast which takes about 5 minutes and am done with producing, but not fully done with the episode because I would have to go promote it on my socials, tell every single person about the new episode and I call it a day. so with all that in total, it takes me about an hour and some minutes to produce a podcast.
I don't spend a dime on my podcast because the hosting platforms I use are free, editing is free because I edit every single episode myself and I haven't done much advertising for my podcast I just post on my socials and hopes all goes well.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I take sponsorship for my podcast, but I rarely get any sponsors because I had a sponsor for two episodes and after that no sponsors on any episode, I just mention a few affiliate sponsorship and I do not share any of my revenue a 100% revenue comes to me.
I got my first sponsorship from a website called "Podcorn" and the sponsorship was for the second and third episode at that time I had about 10 downloads per month.
I still find sponsors from the same website but I place ads on my podcast from one of my podcasting hosts and I don't gain enough from the ads but it's there.
My monthly downloads have increased a lot to about 100-150 downloads per month it's not much but that is a huge increase for me.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I always use Presonus to record and edit all my podcasts but I have been thinking of switching to Audacity because in my 20th Episode I used the Audacity software to edit the podcast.
I write down whatever I want to talk about on my note app and kind of go into details when I am recording my podcast.
I have not done any interviews for a podcast.
► How do you market your show?
My listeners find my shows from different places but I mostly focus on the demographics that my podcast hosts show me.
I usually market my podcast and each episode on my social platforms because some people actually take time from their day to listen to my podcast.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Do not start a podcast and expect to have a thousand listeners or downloads, just make a podcast because you want to release a podcast YOU would listen to, try your best to make sure the audio is perfect make the audio clean remove any background noises from any episode and for the first few episodes take podcasting as a hobby because you arent going to get a sponsor on your first podcast or episode you can get after the first 5 episode or maybe after 30 episodes but do not expect to make a lot of money from your podcast.
I do not have any podcasting resources but you can always start your podcast with the podcasting host I mentioned above and make sure to use the dynamic ad placement software dynamo to make a few bucks from ads on your podcast.
