► Tell us about you and your podcast
From a young age, I knew I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. As I explored various career paths, including teaching, psychology, nursing, and medicine, I eventually found my calling in special education. Over the course of my 30-year career, I worked my way up from a teacher to a central office administrator, dedicated to supporting students with a wide range of disabilities, including ADHD.
It wasn’t until I reached the age of 50 that I discovered I had been living with ADHD myself. This realization not only helped me understand my own challenges but also deepened my empathy for the students I worked with. As my career in education came to a close, I knew I wanted to continue making a difference on a more personal level. That’s when I discovered ADHD Life Coaching, and it immediately resonated with me.
Now, as an ADHD Life Coach, I combine my extensive experience in special education with my personal understanding of ADHD to help others navigate their unique challenges. I am passionate about working with individuals to develop effective strategies, build self-awareness, and create lasting positive change in their lives. Together, we explore strengths, overcome obstacles, and set achievable goals that align with their values.
I started this podcast after having many wonderful conversations with people about all things ADHD and wanting to share those conversations with others. The podcast aims to capture the kind of casual, unscripted conversations you might overhear in a coffee shop. It's important to note that ADHD Eavesdrop is not a scripted podcast. While some guests may feel uncomfortable that I don't provide questions in advance, we should still decide on a topic to discuss. Just keep in mind that we may veer off that topic, and that's perfectly okay. The goal is to let the conversation take on a life of its own. I'm never sure where the conversation will lead.
On my podcast, I aim to educate, entertain, and inspire people with ADHD and the people who love them.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this podcast in July of 2024 after having many wonderful conversations with people locally and around the world about ADHD and wanting to share those conversations with others. I felt a podcast was a natural way to do that. Many people with ADHD prefer listening to reading, so I thought a podcast would be the way to go. On my podcast, I aim to educate, entertain, and inspire people with ADHD and the people who love them. I began releasing my episodes on Youtube right away. I published on other sites in December. In true ADHD form, I dove in as soon as I had the idea and had my first episode up within the month.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I have released an episode a week since July, with the exception of one week when I had COVID. Depending on the interview, I will put in about 3-5 hours in production time, including the interview. I am retired and only work part time as a life coach. I fund my podcast myself and do not pay for marketing or editing (with the exception of my editing software), as I do that myself as well. Since my podcast is also advertising for my business, it covers some costs as well.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I would love to have a sponsor! Unfortunately, I do not. What I get out of the podcast is the opportunity to meet people and hear their stories while having a great conversation. I was born to teach and this gives me an opportunity to teach people about ADHD. I also use it as a way for people to reach out to me for my coaching business. So, ultimately, the podcast brings me joy and possibly clients who also bring me joy.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
My process has been:
- Invite a guest on the show (people I know, people I meet and strike up conversations with, and facebook groups)
- The guest signs up for a time to record through my Calendly booking page, where they fill out a short questionnaire.
- If I am not familiar with the topic, research the topics they have chosen to discuss on the show, if they have a business, I will check out their website and socials.
- Record the podcast via zoom.
- Edit with Wondershare Filmora
- Create a thumbnail, title and description for the episode.
- Upload to RSS to Publish
- Once up on RSS for distribution, publish to Youtube
► How do you market your show?
I have done some advertising on facebook and google, but I am still learning how to use my analytics data on different platforms. This has been a challenging aspect to producing the podcast.
- 29% iHeartRadio
- 27% Apple podcasts
- 22% Chrome
- 7% Pandora
- 5% Spotify
- 10% other
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I am what I would consider to be new at this. So, I don't have a lot of sage advice. I would say though, Marketing is hard. If you don't know marketing expect to have to learn a lot or hire someone.
