Three Kids Talk About Life, Love & Anything Here

Jan. 9, 2019 - "Don't look at the stats, and always remember why you started the show."
since 2018

►Tell us about you and your podcast

The Plunge Podcast is hosted by Hunter, Riley, and Davis, three kids in college who have been lifelong friends and get together every week to talk about life, love, and just about anything. Topics on the show vary from sports, sex, movies, music, and usually end in bickering over random topics like if cereal is a soup (it's not) or if a bread bowl could get soggy. We have many different segments involving arguing, creating movies and tv shows, and just teaching about random topics.

►Why & how did you start this podcast?

The premise of our show started by the conversations we had growing up in Davis' basement. We had always wanted to have a podcast, and realized we were already having the conversations while we hang out and just started to record it. It has turned into a way to grow and maintain our friendships weekly, as well as meeting new people in the podcast universe.

Our show was originally thought of in 2017, but we never actually got everything together and an idea thought out until July 2018, when we released our first episode. We've come a long way and learned a lot about improving our show since then but still think we have a ton of room to grow.

►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?

We have an amazing team here at The Plunge which makes it easy for us. The "A Team" and "B Team" you hear about on the show are really just one big family who helps with everything we do. One person cuts the episodes, one runs the twitter, another the Instagram, another does the graphics, and we all bring ideas and money to the table to make the show the best it can be every week. We fund it ourselves currently and release once a week all around working and being full time students for everyone on the show.

►What do you gain from podcasting?

We currently have some product sponsors (BioBidet, SeatGiant, Spunk Lube) but have not seen much money. We really do it as a fun way to keep our friend group close and talk once a week. We also have found an amazing community of fellow podcasters we now consider family and they really keep us going. We are always open to new sponsors if they benefit our listeners but ultimately do the show as a way to laugh with friends.

►How does your podcasting process look like?

We record every Sunday either in our studio (on school breaks) or over the app discord (while at school). We then do edits throughout the week and release every Thursday. We haven't missed a release yet and don't plan on it!

We are an off the cuff type show, typically with next to nothing prepared besides what segments we will be covering. Our guests vary on what our topics will most likely be that week, but sometimes we have friends join the show, other podcasts, comedians, and even clothing companies and motivational speakers.

►How do you market your show?

We are on all listening platforms! We are very active on social media, especially twitter. Send us your tweets @PlungePodcast and we'll definitely be in contact! Also you can send in any questions to [email protected]

►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?

Just keep making content. You will improve in time, get more comfortable in time, and have more connections the more you are active. Don't look at the stats, and always remember why you started the show.
