►Tell us about you and your podcasts

My name is Laszlo Montgomery. I produce two podcasts: 1. The China History Podcast, which introduces Chinese History; 2. The Chinese Sayings Podcast, which introduces commonly used Chinese Sayings and the stories with rich meanings behind each phrase.

My listeners are those who are interested in China or who are looking to reconnect with their culture.

►Why & how did you start this podcast?

I started The China History Podcast in June of 2010, when podcasting was just starting to become more mainstream… But I only listen to a few podcasts. No time.

It didn't take too long for me to release my very first episode, once I figured out how to do it.

My initial goals & motivations of podcasting were to provide Americans with a basic understanding of China history.

►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?

Everything is self-funded... self-researched… totally a one-man operation from start to finish.

It takes about 30 hours of work to produce an episode. I come out with 1 or 2 per month.

►What do you gain from podcasting?

No impact whatsoever. Just a side hobby.

My podcasts have over a quarter million DL per month. No idea how to find sponsors. If I knew, I’d have one.

I just started monetizing via the Recorded History Podcast Network…. will soon have ads.

►How does your podcasting process look like?

I just use a Mac plus Garageband to record and edit. Other than an expensive microphone, no other hardware used.

Once the episode is written, there is no further prep needed. Just hit record and go.

►How do you market your show?

My shows are easy to find and they are listed in all major podcast Apps. I barely use social media.

►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?

None… I had to figure everything out on my own.

►Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?

ALL social media links and everything I have produced are available at teacup.media.
