►Tell us about you and your podcast

My name is Zach McCrite. I am a 20+ year veteran of the radio business and started my first podcast in 2011. It failed miserably. But, future podcasts did better.

The name of my current podcast is Career In Audio. It’s a podcast about tips and tricks to become a better host on radio or a podcast, as well as how to market your show. Most of my listeners are people looking to start, grow or monetize their own radio show or podcast.

►Why & how did you start this podcast?

I’ve been a radio and podcast consultant and as I started to get the same questions over and over, I figured it’d be great content to put in a podcast. I just started this podcast in March and I’m over 20 episodes in. It took me very little time to produce my first episode since it wasn’t my first go-round. I’ve actually recorded every episode thus far from my phone!

►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?

Podcasting from my phone in my car has made it easy to produce. I have a day job so I record, then send to a virtual assistant to add the pre-produced open and close, write an episode description and schedule in my podcast host.

►What do you gain from podcasting?

I am not taking sponsorships on this podcast yet. I just don’t have enough listeners yet. In the future, I may monetize. Haven’t really decided. I do, however, push listeners to a free webinar that funnels them to a paid course on how to create, grow and monetize their podcast.

►How does your podcasting process look like?

This podcast is only my voice. No guests thus far, although if I did and I still wanted to record from my phone, I would use the Ringr app like in instances past.

►How do you market your show?

Paying it forward with ratings and reviews for others has got me many ratings and reviews in return and got me in New & Noteworthy and a boost in listenership. I’ve also tested Overcast Ads and love the stats I get with that. I use email and twitter as well.

►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?

Just START! People are so afraid to publish or use excuses about production and it “sounding right” to keep from publishing.
