►Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Nick Delahanty, and I am the host of the Pinstripe Talk Podcast. My podcast is dedicated to the New York Yankees, as I discuss the latest news, rumors and updates surrounding the Bronx Bombers.
Like most of my followers, I am a die-hard Yankee fan. I love to interact with my listeners, and love to have conversations with them regarding our favorite team!
►Why & how did you start this podcast?
As a Communications major, I was heavily involved with my college radio station (WRFC Radio at Felician University). After I graduated, I changed career paths, but wanted to stay involved with broadcasting somehow. Podcasting was the perfect way for me to do what I love!
I listen to a lot of different podcasts. Three of my favorite podcasts include R2C2 (hosted by Ryan Ruocco and CC Sabathia), the Bronx Pinstripes Show and the Talkin Yanks Podcast.
I began my podcast a few months back, and have loved every minute of it! Once I got the proper equipment, I started creating content right away. I love talking about baseball, and I make it a goal of mine to create a new show at least once a week, even if my work schedule dictates otherwise. While doing a podcast, I want my listeners to not only be informed, but to also enjoy listening to what I have to say. I try to be as creative as possible in hopes that they decide to listen to future broadcasts.
►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
My goal is to release a new episode at least once a week. Usually, producing an episode takes a couple of hours. A lot goes into the creation of the podcast- it's not just sitting in front of a microphone and talking! Even though my work and coaching schedule is hectic, I still find some free time to make sure I consistently keep my podcast going. In terms of funding, I fund the podcast myself. Even though there is a lot financially that goes into it, I love having an outlet to let my voice be heard, so it's worth every penny!
►What do you gain from podcasting?
Podcasting benefits me tremendously. Even though I changed career paths, having a podcast allows me to channel my true passion, and gives me an outlet to discuss my thoughts, ideas and feeling towards particular topics. The power of words is tremendous, and being able to express yourself is one of the greatest tools that you can have in life. I currently do not have any sponsorships, but am looking to add some in the very near future!
►How does your podcasting process look like?
I have a handful of equipment that I use for my broadcasts. Even though I have some awesome equipment, I use a very simple setup. I found that simple is more effective for what I am trying to accomplish.Although I don't have a lot of guests, whenever someone joins the show I usually conduct the interview via Skype. Before each episode, I map out my topics that I want to discuss, and look up some stats and information that may be useful for the specific topic.
►How do you market your show?
My listeners can find my show via social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) but can also find it on many different sites. Not only is our show available on iTunes, but is also featured on Google Play Music, Simplecast, Spotify, and TuneIn Radio (to name a few!). I want to make sure that people have numerous ways to access and listen to our show!
►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
If you're just getting into podcasting, make sure you enjoy doing it! When you show that passion, you will draw listeners. Market yourself- and don't be afraid to promote your work via social media and through other outlets!
