►Tell us about you and your podcast

Hey there! This is Ashley and Ryan. We are a married couple who bonded over movies early in our relationship. Over the years we have grown quite a collection of movies that we seem to never really watch because of the growth of streaming apps.

So, we decided to start Ruining Our Childhood. Each week we pick an old favorite out of our collection to rewatch. We discuss what we loved about the movie and decide if it's still a favorite, or if our childhood brains failed us.

We are still growing, but a number of our listeners are adults that were true 90's kids.

►Why & how did you start this podcast?

We both love podcasts, especially ones that make us laugh! We started this podcast in March mostly as something to do together as a couple.

►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?

We are still a tiny podcast, so every cost is funded by us. We release a new episode every Tuesday, and it usually takes a day or so for Ashley to edit and put the finishing touches on each episode. Each week, we carve out some time to watch that week's movie and record. We have found that the start up costs for a podcasts don't have to be crazy expensive and you can do it on a small budget if needed!

►What do you gain from podcasting?

Since we are still pretty new to the podcasting game, we don't really have sponsors. Other than Podcoin, which isn't for financial gain, but promotion. Ruining Our Childhood has given both of us a creative outlet that we didn't have before. We love our group of fans that we have and appreciate anyone that takes the time to listen!

►How does your podcasting process look like?

We are all about podcasting on a budget. We use Garageband to record and edit. We found some decently priced microphones on Amazon. We use a free podcast hosting site. In the future, we plan to upgrade most of these things, but for now, we make it work! We really haven't had a guest on our podcast yet, but plan to in the future. To keep each episode as structured as possible, we have a document that we created to help us have answers for each of our categories for our weekly movie. One of our favorites is our "Well hello there" segment where we list all the now famous or recognizable actors that we forgot were in the movie.

►How do you market your show?

We are pretty much everywhere now! Apple Podcasts, Podcoin, Spreaker, Youtube, Spotify! We love using Facebook & Instagram! Its seems like the best place to be able to get feedback from our listeners!

►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?

We are always still learning and trying to improve. We didn't know much before we started, but there are so many ways to get information. Youtube was a big help in learning how to edit and setup in Garageband. Trust in Google, it is your friend.
