►Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Sade Glover and I host our show with my husband, Kyle Sherman.
Our podcast is called Offscreen Babble. We review recent TV shows and movies that we have watched. We love talking about what we have watched and find that we absorb media differently.
Our listeners are anyone who enjoys TV and film analysis and discussion. Listeners may enjoy the fact that we are married and may find similarities in our conversations that they may have with people in their lives. Since we have different opinions, we try to understand each other. Kyle doesn't pay too much attention to production or entertainment news so I like to talk about that angle as well.
►Why & how did you start this podcast?
We started this podcast partially because we were already having these discussions. Since I listen to a lot of podcasts I have always thought about starting my own. Our ultimate goal is to connect with people who also love talking about TV/Film.
It took us only a few days to record and release our first episode. We recorded our first episode at the end of April 2018 and released around the same time.
►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We try to record after we have watched something on the weekend and release one episode every Monday. Our recording sessions usually are about 2 hours, partially because we have a dog that wants our attention and have to stop frequently. Editing takes about 2 hours as well.
We are an independent podcast and do not put money into the show at the moment. We do all of our marketing online through social media.
►What do you gain from podcasting?
We have no sponsors and are not making money from the show. Since we are a new podcast, we get about 50 downloads per episode.
Podcasting is a way for us to connect to people who enjoy having deeper discussions on media. Even though we have a small number of downloads its awesome people are interested.
►How does your podcasting process look like?
We use Saffire to record our audio, GarageBand to edit and SquareSpace to host our episodes.
We made a list of TV shows/movies that we want to cover based on their release. Whenever we finish that TV show or movie we try to make time to record that day. We usually record everything in one session but we sometimes have to record different topics at different times.
►How do you market your show?
We are on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, TuneIn and Stitcher.
It's hard to determine which marketing channel has been the most useful. We use Instagram, Twitter and Reddit the most. Since we have increased our social media presence we have found that we have gotten a few more downloads.
►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
My advice for anyone thinking about starting a podcast is to start one that they are passionate about and enjoy working on.
I think Reddit groups are great for support and questions. I would suggest joining the Podcasts or Podcasting group for advice. I would also join groups that align with podcast's topic.
