►Tell us about you and your podcast
We are Jeanine Bailey and Marie Quigley, co-founders and directors of Empower World and launched Empower World Coaching and Leadership Podcast early 2015. We have created a regular and ongoing following with listeners from all over the world.
We created Empower World in 2012 to deliver ICF approved coach training and mentoring programmes, as well as executive coaching and leadership development programmes for multinational organisations based in Doha Qatar.
As Professional Certified Coach Jeanine Bailey and Master Certified Coach Marie Quigley we both have over 10 years of experience coaching in the Middle East region. Other certifications include Conversational Intelligence (the neuroscience behind coaching conversations), NLP Practitioner, Extended DISC facilitators and a number of other coaching and leadership certifications.
We came together to deliver an executive coaching programme for a major orgaisation in Doha and realized we had a common aim and passion for sharing our knowledge and experience with the people in Qatar - and the world. We now we have a global presence, which is expanding naturally and on an ongoing basis.
►Why & how did you start this podcast?
Our good friend from Ginger Camel who started Doha Heat invited us to start our own podcast as part of a family of podcasts under their support and guidance. This fitted in well with our vision of wanting to share our knowledge to support people to live their best life.
When we decided to do a podcast we had a few different goals in mind:
- To share our own experiences as trainers, mentors and coaches of coaches - as well as coaches of professionals and leaders - with our listeners.
- To highlight topics we cover during our coach training or during coaching sessions (no details revealed) which might be relevant to a more general audience
- To interview inspirational leaders and coaches who are making an impact for the people they are serving
- To support people to step into the most powerful version of themselves
►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
It is our aim to record an episode every two weeks, but it’s not always possible due to our busy schedules. Initially Ginger Camel sponsored our podcast, but now we fund the Podcast ourselves. Our cost is minimal as we record and produce it in-house without needing to have an extra resource for it and fund it ourselves. It takes little time to produce – approximately 4 hours on an average which includes everything from editing to releasing.
►What do you gain from podcasting?
We don’t view our podcasts as a source of revenue at present – and we fund it through our Coach Training programmes, and our corporate executive coaching assignments. Podcasting is an additional channel by which we can reach our audience. We would be delighted if a sponsor came along, however due to our busy schedules, we haven’t actively sort out an appropriate sponsor.
The benefits of the Podcast are considerable. We have a much wider geographical reach now. It helps us to demystify coaching for a lot of people as so many people don’t quite understand what coaching is, or confuse it with therapy etc. And we can give people a better idea of what coaching is.
We also have several of our coach training participants coming back to the podcast to share some of the things they might have learned during our training programmes, so in a way, the podcasts serve as an easily accessible library of coaching topics.
►How does your podcasting process look like?
Because we are in different parts of the world, we usually do our podcasts using Zoom. Zoom works particularly well because our podcasts most often take the form of a discussion between ourselves and it also works well when we interview a guest.
All editing etc is done in-house by our Business Manager who keeps things moving smoothly behind the scenes! All we use to produce our show is a couple of free software applications (Audacity and Moo0 Audio Converter), a professional USB headset and Libsyn which is our paid podcast hosting service. The cost of using Libsyn varies over time, but it is not prohibitive.
►How do you market your show?
We have an active presence on Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn etc), so whenever we release a new podcast episode, we post a description and a link on our Social Media channels.
We also have a growing number of loyal subscribers, and it appears they download and listen to an episode as soon as it is released! And they share our work which brings in more listeners.
We also share the podcast as a potential resource for our clients if its appropriate… that we feel our client can benefit from them.
►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
If you believe you have something worth talking about, go ahead and get started! As coaches we are always supporting people to step out of their comfort zones so that they can grow, and maybe beginning a podcast is one way to step out of your comfort zone if you believe you have a message you want to share with the world.
