► Tell us about you and your podcast
I was one of the OG podcasters (in 2004, I had the 11th podcast in history). Today, I do a DAILY newscast called Today in Digital Marketing. We're past 270 episodes now.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
So much changes in the world of marketing technology, social media, SEO, and related topics that even missing a day's worth can leave you behind. The idea behind the podcast is to give people everything they need to know about what they missed that day in digital marketing news, and not a second more. Started September 2019 and have been doing DAILY (weekdays) since then.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I run a digital engagement agency and am lucky to have 5 people on staff who do most of the agency work. It's an independent podcast. I find the time because of my incredibly talented producer Sarah, who writes most of the script.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We have infrequent ad campaigns, but it's mostly self-funded. We're on the RedCircle platform, which dynamically inserts ads.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Tools are: Auphonic Leveler for pre-processing the voicetrack, Logic Pro for mixing, and Forecast for chapter insertion. We don't have guest interviews.
► How do you market your show?
Mostly, the growth has come from word of mouth, though we have run paid ads on the TechMeme Ride Home and within the Overcast and Castro podcast apps.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Biggest thing: Don't worry about making a perfectly sounding product. Just make a show and get it out into the world.
