► Tell us about you and your podcast
Tyler, along with Ryan & Keenan operate "Who Wants Bananas?" to provide a comedic social commentary and occasionally play games for your enjoyment. We target millennials with our points of view as we tend to discuss many things from the point of view that tends to be underrepresented.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
This podcast started as the three of us have a storied past of being professional talkers and this seemed like the natural progression of those skills. Podcast consumption varies wildly between the three of us. Ryan not listening to many traditional podcasts, Keenan slowly adopting them and Tyler sticking to comedy based shows (Conan, TFATK, Chris Delia, Rogan).
We started this venture to entertain people with our regular shenanigans.
We all have a penchant for making people laugh and wanted a platform to make that happen.
This whole pile of shenanigans officially started in September of 2018, though after many failed attempts and a lot of trial and error, the first episode debuted on October 13th 2018.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Since release we've produced one episode per week (every Friday by midnight). We've fully produced episodes (writing, recording, editing & release) in only a few hours, though this process has taken quite some time to nail down. In the beginning we would take roughly a week to have everything done.
Podcasting with a day job certainly takes quite a time commitment and we treat it as a second job. We have a designated day of the week where we meet up to record that works with all of our schedules as well as having a shared document to keep our episodes in.
As of now, this podcast is funded evenly by each member, we spend $5 monthly for hosting the podcast itself, $14 monthly for our website. Any editing, marketing, design, etc is currently done by any mix of the three of us.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
As of writing this, the podcast does not currently have any sponsorships of note, we had previously utilized Anchors sponsor options, though those were negligible at best. We are currently not only looking for sponsors, but solid avenues to market our podcast out to the proper audiences.
We love doing the podcast. Every week we hang out with the idea of creating entertaining content for anyone able to dedicated their time to us and we don't intent on stopping anytime soon.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We utilize a RodeCaster Pro to record/master our audio through 2-3 AT2020 and one Kam C3 microphone. We edit our episodes primarily through Adobe Audition, occasionally with Audacity. We prepare each episode by only grabbing outlines for relevant topics. It's very important to us that we never deliver anything that seems too rehearsed. We keep our episode" scripts purposely barebones only to keep us on topic and allow our chemistry to carry the comedy.
► How do you market your show?
We currently utilize very minimal marketing techniques, only using the general social media outlets with no marketing campaigns. This is currently an area of focus for the three of us to improve upon.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
The best advice would be, don't over-prepare to the point where it stops you from proceeding, but at the same time don't fly by the seat of your pants. We released our first episode when we had 5 already recorded to allow us some behind the scenes screw ups. We listened to podcasts we enjoyed and did our best to pick and choose our favorite elements to emulate. Find something you enjoy, youtube ideas for your vision and put the pieces together. (I don't have specifics, you'd be shocked how much of this we end up running on the fly).
