► Tell us about you and your podcast
Our podcast is hosted by three friends that have a strong passion for BJJ. We talk about things you would hear at a jiu-jitsu gym on or off the mats after practice. You might catch an episode where we interview a high-level competitor on the BJJ scene or hear us discuss topics ranging from BJJ, MMA, health, lifestyle and even some comedy.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
The podcast started a month into the pandemic shutdown. We wanted to know more about some of our favorite jiu-jitsu practitioners by interviewing them as well as talk about the things that often come up after a long training session; it’s not all BJJ talk. We wanted a podcast for the everyday jiu-jiteiro to enjoy. We worked on the podcast for six weeks before we released our first episode.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We record around our schedules, often re-scheduling and putting in long hours to put out a weekly episode. I promise you it doesn’t feel like work. Our show is 100% funded out of our own pockets and created with our own blood, sweat, and laughs. We’ve used freelance artists in the past to create unique episode covers and funny celebrity “fake call-ins”.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
In podcasting, we have found that we are creators & entertainers at heart. We’ve been introduced to some amazing individuals that are at the forefront of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community. We have found that our passion lies in the martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and it has been a nonstop ride full of knowledge, respect and fun.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Episode creation begins with reaching out for a potential interview with a BJJ player, researching a topic or watching matches. We each record remotely using Streamyard and use Audacity to edit as well as use Adobe Premiere Pro to create audiograms or video clips. Once an episode is recorded, social media posts are created using Canva and or Adobe Photoshop. Episodes release on Mondays and we upload clips throughout the week to our social media.
► How do you market your show?
Our podcast can be found on iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spotify and can also be streamed off our website. We create weekly posts for our Instagram, Facebook & Twitter accounts previewing each episode. Occasionally we hire artists through Fiverr to create custom episode covers as well as have had some of our stories turned into South Park style animations and upload them to our YouTube channel.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Have fun with it and have a reason. Keep an open mind and thick skin. Lastly, I would say form a team and work together to create content you can all be proud of. There is so much free info on the internet to help you get started. Do yourself a favor and ALSO start following Pat Flynn for help getting started.
