► Tell us about you and your podcast
I'm Mary Veronica Anthony from India. I'm an independent award winning filmmaker/author and freelance journalist. I started my podcast show Director Talks last year in September to showcase amazingly talented people from the film industry from around the world. My goal is to shine the light on individuals who are trying to make a mark in the entertainment industry and also on those who have accomplished a high position.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I have the knack of connecting and networking with anyone from around the globe and make friends easily. So I thought of using this natural ability of mine to interview real stories. I love taking interviews since I'm a freelance journalist as well and this helps in coming out with unique questions. I started my podcast during the lockdown last year and it wasn't hard finding guests or releasing the first episode.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
For me it takes a few hours to release an episode. I have four podcast shows going at the moment and I keep up with the growing guest list and the editing out. I have not funded any of my shows, I believe in word-of-mouth. Just yesterday I got my first sponsor, I don't want to spend on paid marketing rather I want the listeners to connect with my shows.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Yes, I did one yesterday with a news based app which has launched in the market (Newsly). It showcases fresh trending articles and podcasts from around the world. I got it purely on my merit as a podcaster. My shows are tuning in 350-500 listeners which is great since I don't do any paid marketing. I post regularly on the social media the clips from the interviews and reach out on facebook groups. Podcasting has given me the chance to learn and make new friends from world over.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I interview over Zoom, I keep things short and crisp by getting to the point and not wasting precious time. I send out the questions before hand to the guest after a little bit of research on the topic. I have been hosting on Anchor and edit my videos/audio's on free sites.
► How do you market your show?
I mainly use my social media pages and allow the guests to tag and give my shows a shoutout on their social media channels.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I listen to other podcasts, read blogs and do research before divulging into topics. I have learnt to be natural as a show host and don't like gimmicks in my show. Keeping the conversation real helps.
