► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Chase Holden and I am the Founder of Garage Guys Fantasy Sports. Garage Guys Fantasy Sports is Co- Hosted by Drew Deen. Drew and I go by the names Garage Guy Chase and Chef BoiRDeen. Drew gets his nick name from cooking up some of the best sports bets and DFS picks in the market, and Mine is pretty self explanatory.
Garage Guys Fantasy Sports Podcast is a step away from the typical fantasy sports podcast, and gives listeners the picks and bets they want without overcomplicating it, and creating a vibe like you're talking with a friend about the sports you love.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I've always been a talker, and my love for Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio sparked my interest in podcasting. I didn't even know podcasting was a thing and first started recording our conversations on Soundcloud before learning about all the options we had.
My vision was to create a show that steered away from all the "expert analysis" and complicated banter that most sports experts talk about, and create a show that would make listeners feel like they were just talking to average joes that were good at making fantasy picks and sports bets. We created that, and threw in some personality as well.
We recorded our first episode in 2017.
It took me one day of zoning in to figure it all out and within hours the show was live.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We record Bi-Weekly, and usually our shows range from 40 minutes to an hour.
When I realized I was serious about my dream, I gave up my career as an insurance agent and started working odd jobs to focus more time on creating content and building the brand.
Other than the initial costs of equipment, we have done well with saving as much money as possible, and have been able to secure a couple of sponsorships now that we are in our third year.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We do accept sponsorship and are openly taking sponsors if they are the right fit with our content and listener base.
Our first sponsorship was obtained by tweeting about a product and getting response from the company, We stayed in touch over a year until partnering up.
We are proud to say we have seen tremendous growth and have thousands of listens each month and steadily growing.
Podcasting and creating content is like a drug to me. I love to entertain people and Its something I couldn't see myself not doing for the rest of my life。
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We currently use Zoom to record, and edit with an app on iPhone.
Typically I will just DM the desired guest on Twitter or Instagram, but we have made established connections and will email PR reps from time to time.
Each episode takes about an hour to plan. I usually gather content during the week and lay it out the day of recording. Its a 24/7 type deal.
Most guests are interviewed over web conference, but if we have the chance to interview in person thats what we prefer.
► How do you market your show?
Most of our marketing is through social media. Twitter being the most used.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Don't worry about having the best equipment out there before starting and don't strive to be something you're not. The world is full of copy cats, so being yourself is the best chance you have to stand out and grow.
