► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Sandy Kruse and I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist with a twist. I support aging well, healthfully, gracefully and beautifully and my podcast is all that and more. I cover off topics to interest all women (and men too!) over 40 and educate them on the many things they can do to be on their path to living their best life beyond 40.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started my podcast in Feb 2020. I love podcasts especially while I'm cooking or walking. I feel there is a huge gap with SHOWING people that they can age gracefully - there is such a negative stigma attached to aging. As a Holistic Nutritionist, I get involved in all things healthy including biohacking, self awareness, and so much more. I want people to see that living out the latter part of our lives can be without chronic disease, and a decline in our overall health and well-being. And I emulate this balanced life myself!!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I record once a week and I taught myself how to edits and do all things podcast-related. I work one-on-one with clients through zoom or FaceTime but always find time to record on a topic that is close to my heart. I am 100% self funded and bought my own software license to do all the editing.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I would love to get sponsors!! I have zero revenue so far...I am going to be recording a podcast episode that will be sponsored but for very little $ but the topic is something I am passionate about. I am getting about 400 downloads per month now. Podcasting has opened up a world of learning and of networking that wasn't there before. I love when I meet someone new I can invite them to my platform to share with my listeners to learn from.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Buzzsprout as my podcast host. I use Hindenburg for all my editing. I used a Yeti Blue Mic to record. I call all my guests when I have them and record that way through audio only. I find guests easily when I want them when I want to do a topic of interest. Often through Instagram. When I have a guest, I provide them with a list of advance questions I'd like answered as though I'm the listener and I have an open discussion before we record. I also make it clear that I prefer conversation vs structure and they know I may veer from the exact questions. When an episode is without a guest, I prepare my own notes depending on the topic - ie I released a research-filled episode based on the cosmetic industry ingredient and that was a ton of research and review!
► How do you market your show?
My show is listed everywhere. I have advertised in the past on Overcast and many found me through that means. Every week when I release an episode I release a sound byte on my social media channels Facebook and Instagram and sometimes on LinkedIn. I have a breakdown of my listener locations, and listener acquisition sources through Buzzsprout.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I would say it's a TON of work at the start if you're a one-woman-show like I am BUT it's so fun to do. Once you learn everything, it becomes a well-oiled machine and all of it gets easier. Once that happens, you can then start to learn newer ways to engage with potential guests, newer ways to promote your podcast and platform and research how to get out there more. I usually look to google for resources on how-to...
