► Tell us about you and your podcast
I'm the founder of a legal tech company which makes it easy for non-lawyers to create, manage and search lawyer-approved contracts on no legal budget. We launched the podcast in November 2021 to interview founders and business owners about their entrepreneurial journeys and their experience dealing with contracts. The show sometimes interviews legal professionals to share their experience with our audience who are mainly founders and business owners.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
My favourite podcasts are Panic with friends, 20 minute VC and Invest like the best. I wanted to start a podcast for Legislate as a way of providing an authentic channel for our audience to learn about us as individuals, as a brand and as a company. The podcast is also a great opportunity to show our audience that many non-lawyers deal with contracts and that we have the expertise to help them should they consider creating contracts with us. We started the Podcast in November 2021 using Riverside and have kept the same format since which consists of 5 questions around the guest's journey and experience dealing with contracts.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Episodes are released weekly and the production can be relatively quickly as episodes only last between 10 and 20 minutes. We fund the podcast ourselves but by keeping episodes short, keep our production costs low. Software platforms like Riverside and Descript also help automate a lot of the editing.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We don't take sponsorship for the episodes but use the podcast primarily as a way of building brand awareness and relationships with our guests.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We record episodes with Riverside, edit the audio and video using Descript and outsource the transcription to Takenote. We ask the same questions to all our guests which helps reduce the amount of required prep to what is necessary for an introduction.
► How do you market your show?
We distribute our podcast on major platforms using Sounder. Prior to publishing an episode, we try to release snippets on social media. Recently, we have shared video recordings on TiKTok which have lead to more engagement and viewers.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Podcasts can take a lot of time and effort to launch which is why it's best to launch quickly and cost-effectively and optimise as you gain followers and feedback from your audience. If your podcast is gaining traction then consider investing in a microphone and webcam but thanks to audio processing software this is not key at the start. Riverside's blog is really helpful for best practices and equipment guides.
