WEBVTT
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.060
And this is really what Joy Luck Trio is about.
00:00:03.240 --> 00:00:07.040
We are three Asian American, Chinese American
00:00:07.040 --> 00:00:10.259
women, and we play three different instruments.
00:00:10.519 --> 00:00:16.589
Gao Hong is a virtuosa pipa. And Karen Han is
00:00:16.589 --> 00:00:21.789
a master erhu virtuosa. What we do and what we
00:00:21.789 --> 00:00:24.210
want to do is share our traditional instruments,
00:00:24.570 --> 00:00:27.850
our traditional Chinese stories, folktales, our
00:00:27.850 --> 00:00:31.070
own stories of heritage. And we want to combine
00:00:31.070 --> 00:00:35.009
it with Western music. I don't think there is
00:00:35.009 --> 00:00:38.770
or ever has been an ensemble of this nature.
00:00:39.289 --> 00:00:42.450
In our latest episode, I interviewed Joy Lactrio,
00:00:42.689 --> 00:00:45.740
Donna Wink -Breedman, Gong Hong, and Karen Hunt
00:00:45.740 --> 00:00:49.479
Otteson, a groundbreaking pipa -erhu -piano trio
00:00:49.479 --> 00:00:52.299
bringing heritage, virtuosity, and contemporary
00:00:52.299 --> 00:00:55.100
expression into one powerful new chamber voice.
00:00:55.340 --> 00:00:59.820
We really respect each other. I so admire those
00:00:59.820 --> 00:01:03.359
two as absolutely my idols. Donna is the one
00:01:03.359 --> 00:01:05.920
to hold it together, and for every single one
00:01:05.920 --> 00:01:09.159
of she... she does is always art that's exactly
00:01:09.159 --> 00:01:12.219
what i like too so and so it's a caring when
00:01:12.219 --> 00:01:15.019

00:01:15.019 --> 00:01:18.420

00:01:23.980 --> 00:01:28.159
i can hear it in my mind and we also want our
00:01:28.159 --> 00:01:32.400
music to be confirmed by our audience. We hope,
00:01:32.400 --> 00:01:35.060
