00:00:01.760 --> 00:00:07.120
Hello, everybody, and welcome to another episode of the Parent Whisper Podcast.
00:00:07.200 --> 00:00:25.440
I'm Richard Ramos, your host, and today I want to share with you this ongoing theme that I've been really thinking about and trying to give a bigger picture of what impact Parents on Emission is having, or at least intended to have.
00:00:25.679 --> 00:00:34.719
All of us as parents were concerned about our kids and our family, which is of course the priority, but it goes beyond that, really.
00:00:34.880 --> 00:00:40.640
And I'm hoping to encourage you as parents to see the bigger picture.
00:00:40.880 --> 00:00:57.039
So I want to talk about the larger community, this idea of some of the notes that I've been writing down here, contributing citizenship versus a consumer citizenship.
00:00:57.200 --> 00:01:07.200
That's a different mindset when you're thinking about how I can contribute to the community, what can I do for the community?
00:01:07.439 --> 00:01:14.719
Where can I strengthen the community and benefit the community versus what can the community do for me?
00:01:14.959 --> 00:01:16.640
Where are the services for me?
00:01:16.799 --> 00:01:18.879
Where's the help for me and my kids?
00:01:19.120 --> 00:01:22.879
And of course, part of it, all of us benefit from the services.
00:01:22.959 --> 00:01:24.159
That's nothing wrong with that.
00:01:24.319 --> 00:01:26.560
But I'm just talking about a certain mindset.
00:01:27.359 --> 00:01:38.719
And as I say all the time in Parents on a Mission to parents, that yes, we are raising our children, but we are also raising citizens of the community.
00:01:39.040 --> 00:01:48.799
And essentially, if you think about it, those of us who have small children are really just us parents who now our children might be a little older.
00:01:49.280 --> 00:01:51.200
They're the future.
00:01:59.120 --> 00:02:15.840
Parents on a mission are because we can't just leave children to themselves without shaping their character, without developing who they really are, without helping them discover their true and full potential.
00:02:16.000 --> 00:02:19.919
And that's why I use the metaphor of the gardener and the flowers.
00:02:20.240 --> 00:02:28.719
Because anybody that works with a garden or flowers, you know you cannot leave the garden, the flowers to themselves.
00:02:29.199 --> 00:02:37.680
So the future of the flowers, you could say the flowers, the seeds that I planted today, those are the flowers of the future.
00:02:37.840 --> 00:02:41.120
Yes, but you have to take care of those seeds.
00:02:41.199 --> 00:02:44.000
And that's the metaphor I always use, parents.
00:02:44.240 --> 00:02:49.680
Yes, these little children are our children, but they are the future.
00:02:50.560 --> 00:02:52.479
But who are they becoming?
00:02:52.800 --> 00:02:56.639
And a lot of that it has to do with you and I.
00:02:56.879 --> 00:03:25.439
So this mindset that we plant in them, what I'm calling a consumer mentality versus a contributing mentality, or you could look at it as an entitlement, because a lot of people they have this entitlement mentality where they feel like they're owed something, the government owes me, the school owes me something, my parents owe me this and that, as opposed to a contributing mentality, a servant leadership type of mentality.
00:03:25.680 --> 00:03:36.080
And that's going to come from the leadership that we provide our children and understanding that we're not the center of the world.
00:03:36.479 --> 00:03:39.199
The world does not revolve around us.
00:03:39.680 --> 00:03:50.800
And when you're raising children who think that way, that's how we get to the bigger picture of having a healthy and safe community.
00:03:51.599 --> 00:04:03.919
So a few of my notes here: communities flourish when people begin seeing themselves as contributors and not just consumers.
00:04:04.240 --> 00:04:13.759
And one of the greatest misconceptions we hold is believing that someone else will build the community that we want.
00:04:14.159 --> 00:04:17.839
Let me tell you, parents, nobody's going to come and save your kids.
00:04:18.319 --> 00:04:28.959
Okay, we can't, you can't wait for the hero on the white horse coming to save your children or however you want to look at it, whatever metaphor you want to use.
00:04:29.439 --> 00:04:32.079
No one's gonna do it.
00:04:32.319 --> 00:04:34.000
We have to do it for ourselves.
00:04:34.160 --> 00:04:47.120
We can't compare depend on the school, on the government, on particular people in authority, politicians, psychologists, psychiatrists.
00:04:47.360 --> 00:04:55.040
Those people can help, but they're not gonna really save, so to speak, what's going on in your home.
00:04:55.199 --> 00:05:08.720
They can help, but it's you and I, you and I, as mom and dad, as parents, stepparents, single parents, divorced parents, where whatever situation you're in, we're the ones that gotta pick up the ball.
00:05:08.800 --> 00:05:19.199
We're the ones that gotta make it happen, we're the ones that gotta save, help, assist, contribute to, build, shape our kids.
00:05:19.759 --> 00:05:34.079
And I'm talking about today this idea of an entitlement mentality or a consumer mentality, what's in it for me mentality versus what can I do to serve other people?
00:05:34.240 --> 00:05:36.480
What can I do to contribute to my family?
00:05:36.720 --> 00:05:43.360
What can I do to contribute to my mom, my dad, my brother, my sisters, my neighbors, the school, and on.
00:05:43.680 --> 00:05:55.199
See, the truth is that communities are being built by the choices we as individuals make every day.
00:05:56.319 --> 00:06:13.040
And usually we have this big idea that something great, something big has to happen in order for the society or the community or the neighborhood to all of a sudden get better.
00:06:13.439 --> 00:06:28.000
When in reality, what it comes down to is you and I on a daily basis and how we are making decisions that are affecting other people, maybe an act of kindness, just things that we all drive, or most of us drive.
00:06:28.079 --> 00:06:44.240
It's just things like you see somebody trying to get in coming out of a driveway, and there's all kinds of traffic, or you're in traffic and somebody needs to get over, but the person does, or if it's you, and because I've experienced this many times, they don't let you in.
00:06:44.480 --> 00:06:46.000
It's like, don't you see me?
00:06:46.240 --> 00:06:50.000
How is it really gonna hurt you to just let me get in?
00:06:50.079 --> 00:06:57.920
You can see that there's all kinds of traffic, and I'm trying to get in so I can get out of the where I'm coming out of a driveway or something like that.
00:06:58.160 --> 00:07:05.279
That's just a simple example of an act of kindness, letting other people go first.
00:07:05.519 --> 00:07:26.319
If you get in line, and just those kinds of things, having honest, open, transparent conversations with your children, for example, all the investments that you make in your children andor other people, those kinds of things are what's building the community all the time.
00:07:26.720 --> 00:07:29.600
And when we're strengthening, again, you can look at our family.
00:07:29.759 --> 00:07:41.759
When you strengthen your family, you're not just strengthening your family, you're strengthening the whole community because the community does not build your family.
00:07:42.079 --> 00:07:46.959
You are building the community by what you're doing in your home.
00:07:47.360 --> 00:07:59.519
And again, I'm talking about having a mindset, building in our children this mindset of contribution, of servant leadership, of service to other people.
00:08:00.240 --> 00:08:07.279
So, parents on a mission, we're not just giving you parent information, how to parent your children.
00:08:07.680 --> 00:08:20.480
Of course, that's part of what we're doing, but we're also trying to develop leaders in the home and eventually leaders who can develop and mentor other leaders.
00:08:20.720 --> 00:08:35.679
If you're familiar with parents on a mission, you know that part of the growth of it is that I mentor, I certify, I train a three-day training other parents to teach my curriculum to other parents.
00:08:36.480 --> 00:08:40.799
And that way I'm everybody's not dependent on me.
00:08:41.279 --> 00:08:45.679
I'm developing other leaders to develop other leaders, and on it goes.
00:08:45.840 --> 00:08:52.159
So now we have the leadership in the home, and we're not depending on looking at other again.
00:08:52.240 --> 00:09:02.240
I as I always say, the other the police, the the principals of schools, the politicians, the psychologists and psychic psychologists, and those kinds of things.
00:09:02.480 --> 00:09:06.399
Again, I'm not putting it down, I'm not saying that, and I'm not saying we don't need them.
00:09:07.200 --> 00:09:15.840
We need parent leaders as well, and that really is the crux of what Parents on Mission is really all about.
00:09:16.159 --> 00:09:26.879
History reminds us that lasting change, it's what we're talking about, rarely begins with the majority.
00:09:27.120 --> 00:09:35.360
It's not like, okay, everybody, let's all get together and make a decision that we're gonna have a safer and a better and healthier community.
00:09:35.519 --> 00:09:37.519
That's not usually how it works.
00:09:37.679 --> 00:09:54.080
It usually just starts with one individual, with one person, or maybe a couple of people, one family that decides they want to break a destructive cycle or generational curse, if you like to call it that.
00:09:54.639 --> 00:10:12.879
One teacher who believes in a struggling student that other people have rejected, one mentor who refuses to give up on somebody that they're mentoring, but yet maybe they're failing, backsliding, but yet they don't give up on them.
00:10:13.120 --> 00:10:33.440
Just that one individual, one executive director that's running a nonprofit organization, but they understand that they need to create a healthy culture in that organization so that the people in the organization can flourish, can develop, can expand, can have opportunity.
00:10:33.679 --> 00:10:38.000
And then that then filters onto the bigger community.
00:10:38.159 --> 00:10:43.600
So, but it just starts with one individual doing those kinds of things.
00:10:43.759 --> 00:10:48.320
It doesn't have to be this mass movement at one time.
00:10:49.360 --> 00:11:02.240
That's why I like to share this one thought that I've had for a long time that has shaped a lot of what I do, a lot of this work, this parents on a mission, youth on a mission.
00:11:02.399 --> 00:11:12.799
And that is that it does not take a village to raise a child, but one child can raise up a whole village.
00:11:13.279 --> 00:11:14.480
Think about that.
00:11:15.039 --> 00:11:16.639
You may have heard me say that before.
00:11:16.799 --> 00:11:19.120
Repetition is the mother of all learning.
00:11:20.080 --> 00:11:27.759
It does not take a village to raise a child, it just takes good parents to raise a child.
00:11:28.159 --> 00:11:30.879
The village is there to help, not control.
00:11:32.399 --> 00:11:54.080
And that is one of my concerns, is that I see the village, the education system, the government taking control, trying to take control from parents, usurping the authority of parents, putting parents on the side, having secrets from the parents, things like that.
00:11:55.200 --> 00:11:58.159
So it doesn't take the village to raise my children.
00:11:58.320 --> 00:11:59.840
I'm raising my children.
00:12:00.080 --> 00:12:01.360
I raised my children.
00:12:01.519 --> 00:12:06.240
I didn't depend on the school, I didn't depend on the coach, the teacher, the pastor, the prayer.
00:12:06.399 --> 00:12:07.440
I didn't depend on them.
00:12:07.679 --> 00:12:12.559
I received their help, but I did not depend on them.
00:12:12.720 --> 00:12:15.200
I raised my children, mom and dad.
00:12:15.440 --> 00:12:18.000
You are in the best position to raise your children.
00:12:18.159 --> 00:12:22.639
It doesn't take a village, but my message is the other side of that, what I said.
00:12:22.879 --> 00:12:27.440
But one child can raise up a whole village.
00:12:27.600 --> 00:12:29.360
We've learned that from history.
00:12:29.679 --> 00:12:34.639
You never know who your son's going to become, who your daughter might become.
00:12:34.799 --> 00:12:45.600
And if you're a mentor of other people's children, you never know who that gang member, who that drug addict, who that young girl that's misdirected.
00:12:45.840 --> 00:12:56.559
You never know that guy coming out of prison, out of jail, out of juvenile hall, that drop out of school person, who they might become.
00:12:56.879 --> 00:12:57.759
One person.
00:12:58.320 --> 00:13:05.679
And because of you, as one person, investing in the life of that one person, you never know who they might become.
00:13:05.840 --> 00:13:07.519
Now, how do I know this?
00:13:10.159 --> 00:13:13.200
Why do I make such an emphasis of that?
00:13:14.720 --> 00:13:16.320
Because I've done it.
00:13:16.960 --> 00:13:19.840
Not to brag, but I've done it.
00:13:20.960 --> 00:13:36.240
That gang member that changed your life, girl and guy, that ex-con, the juvenile hall kid, the troublemaker, the bully, the dropout, the lonely person, the rejected.
00:13:36.480 --> 00:13:37.440
I've done it.
00:13:37.600 --> 00:13:54.399
And I've seen their life change, and not only their life, but them go on to have influence on other people's lives and be a light and be an encouragement to other people, and they have a great story.
00:13:54.960 --> 00:14:04.960
I call it destiny and the power of one, because all our life we've been taught that one plus one equals two.
00:14:05.200 --> 00:14:13.840
But I'm here to tell you that one plus one can explode far beyond two, far beyond.
00:14:14.399 --> 00:14:30.320
And destiny meaning that your life was meant to intersect, to connect, to meet somebody that today, right now, you don't even know them, they don't know you, but somehow life brings us together.
00:14:31.120 --> 00:14:37.360
And because of that connection, many other people are benefited from it.
00:14:37.600 --> 00:14:39.279
Again, how do I know that?
00:14:39.360 --> 00:14:42.080
Because I'm I've lived it and I'm living it.
00:14:42.399 --> 00:14:46.960
I continue to meet people, I didn't know them, they didn't know me yet.
00:14:47.039 --> 00:14:53.759
We come together and organizations are created, other organizations are reached, other people are reached.
00:14:54.000 --> 00:14:56.559
I mentor some and then they mentor others.
00:14:56.720 --> 00:15:01.039
I develop parent leaders and they develop others, and it just goes on and on.
00:15:01.440 --> 00:15:11.039
And I want to encourage you today in that message because we are creating a safer and a healthy community.
00:15:11.200 --> 00:15:15.679
We're not waiting for the government or anybody else to come and do it for us.
00:15:16.480 --> 00:15:34.720
And part of it is this idea of what I'm talking about of developing leaders, developing children, developing others, and demonstrating and being the kind of person, the citizens, the citizen mindset that I am a contributor to the community.
00:15:35.039 --> 00:15:47.120
Not what is in it, what's in it for me and who's going to fix this, but rather what can I do to contribute to the solution of whatever issue that I might be interested in.
00:15:47.519 --> 00:15:56.559
The consumer mind versus a contributing mind, that is what creates the healthy community.
00:15:56.799 --> 00:15:59.120
Let me read a few of these things that I wrote down here.
00:15:59.279 --> 00:16:03.360
Contributing citizens take responsibility for their community.
00:16:03.600 --> 00:16:09.360
Consumer citizens primarily expect others to take responsibility.
00:16:09.600 --> 00:16:17.919
A consumer mindset sees community primarily as a provider of benefits, services, and opportunities.
00:16:18.159 --> 00:16:26.399
And when something goes wrong, the immediate question is who's responsible for fixing this versus what can I do?
00:16:27.360 --> 00:16:36.000
A contributing mindset recognizes that citizenship carries responsibilities alongside our rights.
00:16:36.320 --> 00:16:39.279
So here's three three ideas you can think about.
00:16:39.360 --> 00:16:53.120
Number one, healthy communities require citizens who see themselves as stakeholders, not merely recipients of services.
00:16:54.080 --> 00:17:04.640
So in Parents on a Mission, what I would say to you is as you can expect that kind of mentality from your children if you're not demonstrating it.
00:17:04.960 --> 00:17:16.160
If you're always complaining and moaning and griping about things, but yet you don't do you don't get up and contribute and do anything about it, your kids are going to be the same way.
00:17:16.319 --> 00:17:27.759
A second thing, government nonprofits, schools, and churches cannot substitute for the personal responsibility of citizens.
00:17:28.720 --> 00:17:32.000
So again, it's so that's the let the government take care of it.
00:17:32.079 --> 00:17:36.160
Let the school, the nonprofit organization, let the churches, isn't that their job?
00:17:36.799 --> 00:17:41.440
What are churches and schools and nonprofits and governments made up of?
00:17:42.079 --> 00:17:43.680
Citizens of people.
00:17:44.240 --> 00:17:58.799
And therefore, as a member of a church or a nonprofit or a government entity or whatever it is, a family, I have a responsibility to contribute to whatever the issue is.
00:17:58.960 --> 00:18:12.400
And a third thing is that ownership begins when people stop asking only what is wrong with their community and start asking what they can do to strengthen it.
00:18:13.039 --> 00:18:16.880
Contributing citizens help create the community they want to live in.
00:18:17.200 --> 00:18:17.599
Wow.
00:18:17.920 --> 00:18:20.400
Imagine that kind of idea.
00:18:20.799 --> 00:18:21.359
Really?
00:18:21.519 --> 00:18:22.720
Come on, guys.
00:18:22.960 --> 00:18:25.599
That is just you say, Richard, that's common sense.
00:18:25.680 --> 00:18:29.680
I know, but common sense isn't common practice, is it?
00:18:31.599 --> 00:18:36.799
Consumer citizens primarily participate in what others create.
00:18:37.039 --> 00:18:38.559
How does that make you feel?
00:18:39.440 --> 00:18:44.559
You create something and you're happy that it's benefiting and serving other people.
00:18:44.640 --> 00:18:47.279
But is that the how about reciprocation?
00:18:49.039 --> 00:18:52.079
Consumer communities can become dependent.
00:18:53.200 --> 00:18:55.599
This is what we don't want for our kids, guys.
00:18:56.160 --> 00:19:05.599
Consumer communities can become dependent on institutions and professional service providers to produce solutions.
00:19:06.079 --> 00:19:08.000
Who's gonna fix my kids?
00:19:08.240 --> 00:19:10.240
Who's gonna fix my money problems?
00:19:10.400 --> 00:19:12.160
Who's gonna fix my health?
00:19:12.319 --> 00:19:14.160
Who's gonna fix my marriage?
00:19:14.480 --> 00:19:29.039
On and on, versus what do I need to do and look within myself, look in the mirror, and take accountability and responsibility for what I can do.
00:19:30.240 --> 00:19:33.440
I think by you're you get my point by now.
00:19:33.680 --> 00:19:41.519
And as far as effective community leadership, we're not only delivering programs.
00:19:42.079 --> 00:19:43.039
That's good.
00:19:43.440 --> 00:20:05.759
I've done that, but also I am wanting to create and develop individuals who can carry for forth whatever program I've created so that people are not just dependent on me as the creator of that community or that community service, but I'm developing other people.
00:20:06.160 --> 00:20:13.359
That is effective leadership creating opportunity for people to become part of the solution.
00:20:15.359 --> 00:20:19.440
So another question think about this.
00:20:21.200 --> 00:20:40.720
Are our institutions, the ones I've named, developing the capacity of citizens to contribute or unintentionally teaching them to remain dependent on services, remain dependent.
00:20:40.880 --> 00:21:03.359
And I'm saying to you, mom and dad, and this is one of my main messages in Parents on a mission, is I believe it's the latter that our children are being programmed to become dependent on government, to become dependent on everything else except themselves.
00:21:03.680 --> 00:21:05.119
That's what I'm saying.
00:21:05.440 --> 00:21:11.920
Now, I think in in other episodes, I've provided information on that, and I certainly can do that.
00:21:12.319 --> 00:21:17.519
You may not want to accept that, fine, but that's what I'm saying.
00:21:18.799 --> 00:21:36.160
The messaging that we are receiving from all over the place: social media, radio, television, the news, the government, everything is causing people to look to the government and depend on them.
00:21:36.240 --> 00:21:43.119
And like I said already at the beginning of this message, nobody's gonna come and save your family.
00:21:43.359 --> 00:21:45.119
Nobody's gonna come and save your children.
00:21:45.279 --> 00:21:47.440
Nobody's gonna come and save your marriage.
00:21:47.759 --> 00:21:59.759
We need to take responsibility and do what we can do as individuals to help our children, help our marriage, help our schools, help our government, help our searches.
00:22:00.480 --> 00:22:09.519
And whatever other institution that is part of the community, and that we are serving them, we are not depending on them.
00:22:10.319 --> 00:22:12.880
I don't know if you're hearing all this background noise.
00:22:13.039 --> 00:22:16.000
I hope you're not, but if you are, just bear with me.
00:22:16.240 --> 00:22:18.000
I apologize for that.
00:22:18.400 --> 00:22:28.720
Another thing, and this is a mindset of stewardship, as another way of saying this: stewardship versus self-interest.
00:22:29.039 --> 00:22:34.000
Contributing citizens consider what they're leaving behind.
00:22:34.640 --> 00:22:36.799
Now that speaks to legacy.
00:22:36.960 --> 00:22:40.079
And as a parent, we're always encouraging parents.
00:22:40.240 --> 00:22:45.119
We have this exercise in Parents on a Mission that it has to do with legacy.
00:22:45.680 --> 00:22:53.279
And that we're concerned not only for our life right now, but what are we leaving behind when we're gone?
00:22:53.440 --> 00:22:57.759
What are we leaving to our children, our grandchildren, etc.?
00:22:58.160 --> 00:23:04.559
A consumer mindset tends to measure community success by immediate personal benefits.
00:23:04.720 --> 00:23:06.240
You see the difference there?
00:23:07.359 --> 00:23:17.519
Immediate personal benefit versus what am I building for the future legacy of leaving my children, grandchildren, and other people in the community.
00:23:17.759 --> 00:23:28.480
A stewardship mindset considers the long-term well-being of people, families, institutions, and future generations.
00:23:29.200 --> 00:23:44.240
Contributing citizens understand that their influence, their resources, their relationships and opportunities are not simply possessions to enjoy, but responsibilities to steward.
00:23:45.519 --> 00:23:49.680
So, what kind of community are we leaving to the next generation?
00:23:49.759 --> 00:23:52.640
And what are we doing today to make it stronger?
00:23:53.119 --> 00:24:01.599
That is really where I want you to focus your thoughts, even when it comes to raising your own children.
00:24:01.920 --> 00:24:08.480
But today I just wanted to give you an understanding of the bigger picture of parents on a mission.
00:24:10.799 --> 00:24:29.119
Developing other leaders, developing our children, developing this mindset that we are not just taking, taking, but we are thinking about the future and what is it that we are leaving for the future, our posterity, etc.
00:24:30.079 --> 00:24:35.440
And so I want to end with this a couple of thoughts here that I have here.
00:24:37.039 --> 00:24:50.000
If every citizen approach their community with the question, who becomes better because I'm here?
00:24:50.880 --> 00:24:52.880
What kind of community would that create?
00:24:52.960 --> 00:24:54.319
Let me say it one more time.
00:24:54.559 --> 00:25:10.319
If we thought of ourselves as stewards and ask that question, how was the community improved because I was here or I am here?
00:25:10.400 --> 00:25:20.319
Or if you put it in the present, how is the community, the neighborhood, whatever you're part of, better because I'm here?
00:25:20.559 --> 00:25:24.240
And then future, how is it better because I was here?
00:25:24.480 --> 00:25:25.759
What did I do?
00:25:26.240 --> 00:25:31.440
And of course, the best treasure, if we're parents, it's our kids.
00:25:31.680 --> 00:25:37.599
That's what we're leaving to the next generation to improve the community.
00:25:38.480 --> 00:25:49.039
Raising responsible, obedient, loving, kind, patient children, and whatever other adjective you want to use.
00:25:49.759 --> 00:25:55.680
Respectful, compassionate contributors.
00:25:57.200 --> 00:26:02.400
So I just hope you're getting the bigger picture here.
00:26:02.640 --> 00:26:04.640
I want to help you as a mom and dad.
00:26:04.720 --> 00:26:07.359
I want to help parents, of course.
00:26:07.680 --> 00:26:15.839
But there's it's not just about you and your family, it's not just about me and my family, it's about the larger community.
00:26:16.000 --> 00:26:17.759
I don't have to tell you.
00:26:21.039 --> 00:26:22.480
A lot of problems.
00:26:22.799 --> 00:26:44.000
Whether we want to talk about drugs, whether we want to talk about violence, crime, human trafficking, corruption at the highest levels of every entity you could talk about, from government to churches to education, etc.
00:26:44.799 --> 00:26:53.200
I don't think that that's not news to any one of us, but we can do something about it.
00:26:54.880 --> 00:27:13.599
And what POM is focused on, and what I've been trying to get more people focused on, one of my main again, themes or messages is the roots produce the fruits.
00:27:13.920 --> 00:27:31.839
And I've been trying to get communities, political leaders, people in authority, people that have power, people that are making decisions and policies and have the purse strings that can do something to help the community, because that's what they're supposed to be doing anyway.
00:27:32.000 --> 00:27:39.920
That's a whole nother subject, that they will start focusing on the root of the problem.
00:27:40.079 --> 00:27:41.920
Let me repeat it again.
00:27:42.240 --> 00:27:49.519
Communities, so many communities have their focus on the wrong thing.
00:27:50.160 --> 00:28:03.599
They're focused on the problems that rebellious and violent youth create rather than being focused on the problems that create rebellious and violent youth.
00:28:03.759 --> 00:28:06.319
That's what I call the roots.
00:28:06.960 --> 00:28:17.039
So we are focused on the roots that produce the fruits of communities with healthy, contributing citizens.
00:28:17.440 --> 00:28:18.880
That's the goal.
00:28:19.119 --> 00:28:24.640
That's the crux and the essence of what Parents on a Mission is all about.
00:28:25.279 --> 00:28:41.279
And so, again, the my favorite quote by Henry David Thoreau that changed my whole trajectory and my own focus when I was trying to help and solve problems of youth and problems of community.
00:28:41.599 --> 00:28:50.960
He said, for every thousand men that are hacking at the leaves of evil, one is striking at the root.
00:28:51.920 --> 00:28:56.480
And what I've been saying is, we got to change that.
00:28:56.640 --> 00:29:04.880
It can't just be one, it has to be many more people working at the root of the problem.
00:29:05.279 --> 00:29:12.000
I say that's in the home, starting in the heart, and that's what Parents on a Mission is all about.
00:29:12.319 --> 00:29:16.000
And I would love you to join me and join my team.
00:29:16.480 --> 00:29:20.240

00:30:38.480 --> 00:30:42.880
On my website, at the very bottom right-hand corner, there's a little orange bubble.
00:30:43.200 --> 00:31:01.599

00:31:01.759 --> 00:31:04.000
So that's another thing you can you can do as well.
00:31:04.240 --> 00:31:05.839
All right, that's it for today.
00:31:06.079 --> 00:31:07.359
Thank you for listening.
00:31:07.519 --> 00:31:13.200
And always remember, mom and dad, parents on a mission is not for bad parents.
00:31:13.359 --> 00:31:17.279
It's for good parents like you who just want to get better.
00:31:17.519 --> 00:31:18.799
See you next time.
