00:00:01.037 --> 00:00:09.337
Well, hello, my valued listeners, and welcome to another episode of the podcast, Living in Your Power.
00:00:09.677 --> 00:00:14.837
I'm your host, Dr. Marlene Greenleaf, and today we are kicking off a brand new
00:00:14.837 --> 00:00:23.597
series for the month of May, rooted in self-worth, healing, growing, and rising.
00:00:24.997 --> 00:00:31.337
And what better way to begin this journey than by honoring one of the most powerful
00:00:31.337 --> 00:00:34.657
reflections of self-worth, nurture.
00:00:36.837 --> 00:00:42.657
Now this week is extra special as it's the week we celebrate Mother's Day.
00:00:43.517 --> 00:00:51.217
And as we approach and celebrate mothers on Sunday, I want to reflect on the
00:00:51.217 --> 00:00:53.417
women who poured into us.
00:00:53.597 --> 00:00:59.077
And how we learn to pour into ourselves with the same love and grace.
00:00:59.797 --> 00:01:05.617
So today's episode is called The Power of Nurture.
00:01:05.997 --> 00:01:10.417
Honoring the givers. Healing the giver within.
00:01:11.617 --> 00:01:17.437
And that's because the women who nurture us shape so much of who we are.
00:01:17.857 --> 00:01:25.477
And part of healing and growing is not just honoring them. but also learning to nurture ourselves.
00:01:28.357 --> 00:01:31.817
I want to start today by sharing something personal with you.
00:01:32.917 --> 00:01:36.957
Now in late 2016, I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer.
00:01:38.557 --> 00:01:45.697
She wasn't just my mom. She was my best friend, my prayer partner and warrior,
00:01:46.517 --> 00:01:50.497
my secret advisor, and my greatest advocate.
00:01:52.197 --> 00:01:59.737
And it's because of her motivation, her prayers, her unwavering belief in me
00:01:59.737 --> 00:02:03.857
that I'm the woman standing before you today.
00:02:05.237 --> 00:02:08.417
She nurtured my dreams when they were fragile.
00:02:09.277 --> 00:02:16.077
She lifted my spirit when I doubted myself and she spoke life over me when the
00:02:16.077 --> 00:02:17.597
world tried to speak otherwise.
00:02:19.897 --> 00:02:24.317
And though she's no longer physically here her
00:02:24.317 --> 00:02:29.257
legacy lives in me and every
00:02:29.257 --> 00:02:35.577
time I encourage someone else to rise to their power that's my mother's voice
00:02:35.577 --> 00:02:43.377
moving through me so today I want to honor all the givers biological mothers
00:02:43.377 --> 00:02:45.917
spiritual mothers, mentors,
00:02:47.057 --> 00:02:53.337
aunties, and friends who pour into us with love, faith, and strength.
00:02:56.420 --> 00:02:59.420
But here's something else I've learned on this journey.
00:03:00.560 --> 00:03:05.080
We must also become the nurturer for ourselves.
00:03:06.620 --> 00:03:10.340
We must speak life over ourselves.
00:03:10.880 --> 00:03:23.260
We must advocate for our own dreams. And we must create space for our own healing and rest.
00:03:24.720 --> 00:03:27.200
Because you cannot pour from an empty cup.
00:03:28.780 --> 00:03:35.260
And many of us, especially women, we have spent so much time giving to others
00:03:35.260 --> 00:03:37.520
that we forget we need care too.
00:03:39.000 --> 00:03:45.180
Listen, nurturing yourself is not selfish. It is necessary.
00:03:45.920 --> 00:03:50.020
It is how you protect the legacy that was poured into you.
00:03:51.060 --> 00:03:56.780
And when we nurture ourselves with kindness, compassion, and grace,
00:03:57.060 --> 00:04:01.800
we are able to show up even more powerfully in our purpose.
00:04:04.060 --> 00:04:09.820
So this Mother's Day, I want to invite you to reflect on two things.
00:04:11.280 --> 00:04:14.940
I want you to honor the nurturer who shaped you.
00:04:15.940 --> 00:04:23.760
Whether they are still here or resting in glory, acknowledge their impact and
00:04:23.760 --> 00:04:26.240
honor the nurturer within you.
00:04:26.780 --> 00:04:34.600
Take time to nurture your own spirit, your own dreams, and your own healing journey.
00:04:35.440 --> 00:04:41.780
Because the more you tend to your soul, the stronger your light shines for others.
00:04:44.140 --> 00:04:50.300
This week is not about grand gestures It's about gratitude, reflection,
00:04:50.320 --> 00:04:57.660
and gentle care Care for yourself and for those who loved you into being,
00:05:00.160 --> 00:05:05.360
So here's your gentle challenge for the week I know the week is almost over
00:05:05.360 --> 00:05:09.600
But it's still a challenge We still have a few more days,
00:05:10.680 --> 00:05:18.380
I want you to write a letter of gratitude to a woman who nurtured you or if
00:05:18.380 --> 00:05:24.220
she's no longer with you write it as a way to honor her memory.
00:05:28.840 --> 00:05:36.800
Next I want you to write a second note to yourself I want you to thank yourself
00:05:36.800 --> 00:05:41.860
for surviving thriving, and continuing to rise.
00:05:43.580 --> 00:05:49.500
Both of these letters are acts of healing and both are powerful forms of nurture.
00:05:52.657 --> 00:06:00.097
So in closing, I want you to know that your roots are deeper than you know.
00:06:00.537 --> 00:06:06.397
They are watered by prayers you never heard, sacrifices you never saw,
00:06:06.677 --> 00:06:11.137
and love you may not have always understood until later.
00:06:12.357 --> 00:06:19.957
And now you get to nurture your own spirit. You get to heal and rise Carrying
00:06:19.957 --> 00:06:23.837
the wisdom of those who loved you Into your next season,
00:06:25.997 --> 00:06:31.177
So until next time, dear listeners I want you to continue to live boldly in
00:06:31.177 --> 00:06:38.557
your power And if it gets tough Just breathe You still got the strength to rise,
00:06:39.377 --> 00:06:47.997
So happy Mother's Day on Sunday To all the nurturers and to the beautiful soul inside you.
00:06:49.817 --> 00:06:54.157
Continue to live in your power.
