00:00:01.439 --> 00:00:08.640
Most people spend their entire life stress without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want and what's important to them.
00:00:09.279 --> 00:00:14.640
See, let me hear to copy all the noise connecting you to yourself and the life that you were meant to live.
00:00:15.039 --> 00:00:17.839
I used to live away the cover job and I hated it.
00:00:18.000 --> 00:00:21.280
But I broke through the social noise because too much happy.
00:00:22.079 --> 00:00:24.079
As a result, I own my own coffee company.
00:00:24.239 --> 00:00:25.280
I'm the first company.
00:00:26.000 --> 00:00:27.359
And I get this crap a little bit.
00:00:28.399 --> 00:00:30.640
You too can live a life that you want.
00:00:31.039 --> 00:00:33.039
But it starts within clearly what you want.
00:00:33.840 --> 00:00:34.960
It starts within this.
00:00:36.240 --> 00:00:37.679
I'm your host, Donnie Rouse.
00:00:38.240 --> 00:00:39.920
You're listening to the podcast.
00:00:40.399 --> 00:00:41.520
One life.
00:00:56.880 --> 00:01:05.599
But said differently, I want to talk about how do you how do you know when those moments are where you have to act courageous?
00:01:06.799 --> 00:01:18.159
It's uh I know I in the past I'd fallen in the trap, and it's easy to fall in the trap to think that courageous moments are these these ginormous moments that you have to take this massive action and like break through the wall.
00:01:18.560 --> 00:01:25.040
When the truth is, is that the biggest moments are the smallest ones where you have to take courageous action.
00:01:26.159 --> 00:01:39.760
But if you if you don't fine-tune, I guess, the uh the definition of what a courageous moment is, you can miss out on these moments that are constantly calling you every single day.
00:01:40.719 --> 00:01:46.560
So let's start first with how do you how do you identify these courageous moments?
00:01:47.840 --> 00:01:53.760
The easiest thing is like you'll you'll notice the feel that first and foremost, you're gonna notice it in your body, right?
00:01:54.560 --> 00:02:06.879
For example, um, I was doing a call yesterday, I was talking with a um uh a packaging company that does a a process for uh for bottled for bottled beverages.
00:02:07.680 --> 00:02:25.599
And in my relationship with this company, they had uh I guess behaved some ways that in my opinion were either negligent or intentionally there to uh cause harm to me.
00:02:26.159 --> 00:02:30.000
So as a result of it, I needed to confront this company.
00:02:30.240 --> 00:02:33.199
And I had to say, hey, listen, this is not okay.
00:02:33.360 --> 00:02:38.479
This is how I want to proceed, I want to proceed, or this is what you did wrong.
00:02:39.520 --> 00:02:44.800
But the thought of doing that all of a sudden stirred this emotion inside of me.
00:02:44.879 --> 00:02:47.199
I'm like, oh, well, what if what if they get mad at me?
00:02:47.360 --> 00:02:50.400
What if they, you know, uh, what if they argue back?
00:02:50.560 --> 00:02:54.960
And I knew what the what my fears were, right?
00:02:55.199 --> 00:02:59.919
Like the fears were apparent, like it was what was making me hesitant to want to go on the call.
00:03:00.960 --> 00:03:08.400
But I I've trained myself now is that when I notice these moments, when I when I feel like, oh boy, here we go.
00:03:08.479 --> 00:03:10.080
Like, wow, I'm getting a little nervous.
00:03:10.240 --> 00:03:13.680
I know that that nervousness is a call to action.
00:03:13.919 --> 00:03:20.240
And I've trained myself now to to step into that action rather than to avoid it.
00:03:20.639 --> 00:03:22.240
Because action only takes three seconds.
00:03:22.400 --> 00:03:24.479
Three, two, one, and you go.
00:03:24.960 --> 00:03:30.879
And then once you once you take the movement, right, you're already in motion, so there's no other way to go but forward.
00:03:31.520 --> 00:03:39.360
So it was this this stirring of emotion, this feeling of anxiousness that will, you know, like I'm gonna say this, what if I make the wrong decision?
00:03:39.599 --> 00:03:52.080
When the truth is, when I checked into my heart, I knew that how this company and I were interacting, and just the I mean, I'll I'll go in a little bit of detail on negligence insane.
00:03:52.560 --> 00:04:05.759
You know, we were talking about formulation, and um, you know, I had shared some details with them, and they wanted to take the next step, but there was no contract in in um no contract to take the next step.
00:04:05.919 --> 00:04:20.560
So for those of you who are looking into the the food or beverage or any kind of space, right, you have your NDA that that protects you against the disclosure of your information, but then anything after that, you need an agreement, right?
00:04:20.720 --> 00:04:32.399
Because all of a sudden, if I were to move forward with this company, right, without the agreement, as they were suggesting, then any formulation work done on my behalf would not own, be owned by me.
00:04:32.560 --> 00:04:36.000
It would be own property of the formulator.
00:04:36.560 --> 00:04:42.879
So having the awareness to and and the and the wherewithal to understand this, thank God, right?
00:04:42.959 --> 00:04:53.600
Because if I would have proceeded with that and we would have done all this work, all of a sudden now they have my then they could consult with other people and then they're like, okay, this is what we do for this drink, and now all of a sudden my secrets everywhere.
00:04:54.480 --> 00:05:02.560
So um, so it uh going back, it was this this emotion that I knew I needed to move forward and take the action.
00:05:03.040 --> 00:05:06.879
So that was a a fairly big example, but let's go with a smaller example.
00:05:06.959 --> 00:05:09.199
Like, how do you know if when it shows up in your dead day?
00:05:09.519 --> 00:05:20.160
Sometimes the courageous action is having that difficult decision, sometimes it is expressing a boundary that needs to be put in place.
00:05:21.600 --> 00:05:34.399
Another example of that is um, you know, I was talking with a friend and he wanted to um he wanted to have um an espresso consult with me, right?
00:05:34.480 --> 00:05:40.560
He's like, hey, just come over, uh, you know, I'll take you out for lunch and you know, let's do the espresso.
00:05:40.800 --> 00:05:45.439
I'm like, well, in my I didn't say it this way, I was like, yeah, sure at first, right?
00:05:45.600 --> 00:05:48.079
But in my mind, I'm like, well, no, not really.
00:05:48.240 --> 00:05:52.319
I mean, well, one of all, if when I'm doing espresso consults, like those take like three hours.
00:05:52.480 --> 00:05:57.839
And I really delve into like the details of extraction, how to taste, how to understand it.
00:05:58.079 --> 00:06:03.439
It's not like, you know, it's not like a a five-minute introduction or even an hour.
00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:09.120
So there was a boundary there because like I felt like I needed to express my boundary because this is what I do for work, right?
00:06:09.199 --> 00:06:12.319
This is what I've spent my entire life devoted to.
00:06:13.040 --> 00:06:15.439
And so I'm gonna express that boundary to him.
00:06:15.600 --> 00:06:18.480
Like, I'm more than happy to help out my friends, without a doubt, right?
00:06:18.560 --> 00:06:32.079
And that's the kind of the that's kind of like the the uh the line that I was um going across was all right, well, how much do I help my friends versus what is right, what is wrong?
00:06:32.160 --> 00:06:35.279
Like only you know what feels good for you, right?
00:06:35.360 --> 00:06:36.800
And that's really what it comes down to.
00:06:36.879 --> 00:06:40.720
You have to feel it in your body and know what feels good.
00:06:41.040 --> 00:06:42.240
Like I'm gonna help him out.
00:06:42.319 --> 00:06:44.319
I'm gonna am I gonna do the three hours?
00:06:44.560 --> 00:07:08.319
Well, I mean, he's a friend, but we're kind of in the beginning phases, and so I want to be respectful to myself as well as respectful to the friendship, so but that having that conversation is a courageous act, and so looking at all I uh to go back into that, so that was just how you identify is that that emotion that was going into it.
00:07:09.279 --> 00:07:25.680
And um to give you just um going back to the my own life example, when I was looking at my day, I realized that I taken all of these steps and took action to move my business forward.
00:07:25.759 --> 00:07:40.000
And like there are some of the actions were making a call to a different formulator, having a conversation with someone who is been in the natural foods industry, you know, for they're a veteran in the industry and they have a lot of knowledge, right?
00:07:40.879 --> 00:07:52.399
But it having that, just having the conversation, even though there was there was no, you know, nothing was really gonna come out of it, just having the conversation and being in the same room, I thought was intimidating.
00:07:52.879 --> 00:07:54.319
But I did it anyways.
00:07:54.720 --> 00:07:57.439
And as a result, I've got some new connections from it.
00:07:57.519 --> 00:08:00.160
Now I have some different ways of moving forward.
00:08:00.800 --> 00:08:11.439
So how the reason I tell you this is because I want you to identify those courageous acts in your day, not just to bypass them and think like these are small insignificant moments because they are not.
00:08:12.399 --> 00:08:22.560
These small moments are actually the the moments that are a calling you to step into that courageous that courageous state, to break through the fear.
00:08:22.639 --> 00:08:24.000
You may not think of it as fear, right?
00:08:24.079 --> 00:08:29.279
Let's not use fear, apprehension, nervousness, whatever you want to call it.
00:08:30.079 --> 00:08:33.039
It's still a call to act courageously.
00:08:34.000 --> 00:08:35.600
So let's look in your day.
00:08:35.840 --> 00:08:42.080
Like, where do you normally feel these these these little nudges for courageous action?
00:08:42.960 --> 00:08:49.279
Maybe you notice it when you have to have an interaction with somebody at work where you have to express a boundary.
00:08:49.679 --> 00:09:01.440
Maybe it is taking a step with your business, moving in the direction you want to go that you know you want to go, but you just haven't done it because you're afraid of how you might be perceived, you're afraid of doing it wrong.
00:09:02.879 --> 00:09:11.759
Those are all actions or those are all examples of courageous action needing to be taken.
00:09:12.720 --> 00:09:21.600
So my assignment for you is one, just it, you know, at the very least, just bring some awareness to where you are being called to act.
00:09:22.399 --> 00:09:30.960
And then when you know that, once you know, like you have to decide, decide to act courageously, that you're gonna be courageous, right?
00:09:31.120 --> 00:09:36.720
And part of it is like uh one of the things I love um is that you can create a rule for yourself.
00:09:36.879 --> 00:09:39.919
Like when you notice that it's three, two, one.
00:09:40.399 --> 00:09:42.559
I I haven't done this in a while, actually.
00:09:42.639 --> 00:09:43.360
I actually get back to this.
00:09:43.600 --> 00:09:53.840
So if there was a a girl that I found attractive, right, I'd be at the gym or somewhere, and I would be like three, two, one, and like, all right, on on one, I go.
00:09:54.159 --> 00:09:56.320
Like, I I I go in that direction.
00:09:56.399 --> 00:09:57.519
I'll give you one example.
00:09:57.679 --> 00:10:05.279
I was in uh, I was in Miami Beach, I was with my good friend Fatih, and we were at this party at the Fayana Hotel during Art Basel.
00:10:06.240 --> 00:10:18.080
And we were you were sitting there, we're talking, and I'm looking up, and there's this beautiful blonde girl dressed in white, beautiful smile, short hair, about shoulder length, and she's staring at me and smiling.
00:10:18.159 --> 00:10:20.480
I'm like, is she staring at me?
00:10:20.720 --> 00:10:23.360
And I'm looking at my friend, I'm like, yo, I think she's staring at me.
00:10:23.440 --> 00:10:25.200
Every time I look there, she's looking at me.
00:10:25.440 --> 00:10:28.559
So I'm looking, you know, look back, I'm like, I caught her again.
00:10:28.639 --> 00:10:31.679
All right, look, she's all right, she's still staring at me.
00:10:32.000 --> 00:10:37.039
And um, so my friend Fatih he was like, Oh, well, let's go over there.
00:10:37.120 --> 00:10:40.080
I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, don't, don't don't go over there.
00:10:40.240 --> 00:10:46.320
So he sneaks up and um he sneaks around, like next, almost like right behind her.
00:10:46.399 --> 00:10:49.200
And in my mind, I'm like, I am gonna kill you.
00:10:49.519 --> 00:10:53.360
I am gonna murder you right here in front of everybody.
00:10:53.600 --> 00:10:56.240
And but I end up knowing that I was afraid.
00:10:56.399 --> 00:11:05.279
I I followed him, and we were standing behind her, and we're talking and we're talking, we're talking, and then the three two-one idea came into my mind.
00:11:05.440 --> 00:11:08.639
I was like, all right, God, I gotta do this, I gotta do this.
00:11:08.799 --> 00:11:16.399
And so my friend Fatih is talking to me and he's like, he's talking, talking, talking, looks off, and then when he looks back, I'm not there anymore.
00:11:16.639 --> 00:11:20.720
He's like, because he's he's telling me this afterward, I'm not there anymore.
00:11:20.960 --> 00:11:26.000
And he's um, and he's saying to my he's saying to me, he's like, Where the hell did you go?
00:11:26.240 --> 00:11:35.600
And then he looked over and I was talking to this girl because I did that, and it was like uh, I just said to myself, I was like, I was there, I was like, I gotta deal with this, right?
00:11:35.679 --> 00:11:36.639
I I'm afraid of this.
00:11:36.720 --> 00:11:38.480
I have to go up to her and approach her.
00:11:38.639 --> 00:11:46.399
And it's not that I say that I have to approach every person that I um that that I I find attractive, right?
00:11:46.480 --> 00:11:51.519
Because I know that there's certain people that like I really feel a pull to, and this was one of them.
00:11:52.080 --> 00:11:57.360
And um so again, I said three, two, one, whoop.
00:11:57.519 --> 00:11:58.399
Hi, how are you?
00:11:58.480 --> 00:11:59.039
What's your name?
00:11:59.120 --> 00:11:59.840
Where are you from?
00:12:00.080 --> 00:12:03.360
You know, because nobody would nobody was from Miami Beach.
00:12:03.600 --> 00:12:25.279
And um, so just to kind of make the the uh the the story add a little humor to it, so she ended up being a very close talker, and which I didn't mind because I found her very attractive, and like literally, like she was like inches away from my face as she was talking to manups, and that was kind of like off not off-putting, but it was just kind of like I'm like, wow, she's really close.
00:12:25.360 --> 00:12:30.639
Like, I've never had someone this close into my personal space, and um, but that that was it.
00:12:30.799 --> 00:12:42.159
And so the the point of the story, the the point I wanted to make is that when you notice those, there's two things you could either fall back in fear or you can move forward in courageous action.
00:12:42.320 --> 00:12:47.759
You get to decide, and the victory is stepping into that courageous action, right?
00:12:47.840 --> 00:12:51.039
You don't things aren't gonna always go as planned.
00:12:51.279 --> 00:13:00.320
But again, what we're doing here is we are uh we're celebrating the action that you're taking, not not the not the effect.
00:13:00.480 --> 00:13:04.879
We're celebrating action because as you do that, you are gonna reshape your entire life.
00:13:05.039 --> 00:13:14.799
You start taking courageous action and moving forward, taking these courageous steps when they arise, you're gonna notice you're gonna be in a completely different place one week, one month from now.
00:13:14.879 --> 00:13:27.120
If anything, you are gonna feel good because you are taking these actions and you know that you're gonna feel good because of the the discomfort or like that you would have felt.
00:13:27.200 --> 00:13:30.879
And you when you move through it, you realize it all just dissipates, it all disappears.
00:13:31.120 --> 00:13:33.440
So that is that's all I go for you guys today.
00:13:33.519 --> 00:13:35.120
Again, three things for you.
00:13:35.279 --> 00:13:40.000
One, notice where those courageous moments are happening, right?
00:13:40.080 --> 00:13:42.240
Notice where you are being called, right?
00:13:42.399 --> 00:13:49.039
So the feeling, anxious, nervousness, that is a courageous action calling for your attention.
00:13:49.360 --> 00:13:52.639
Two, all it takes is three seconds.
00:13:52.879 --> 00:13:54.559
Three, two, one.
00:13:54.799 --> 00:13:56.559
The last thing is just freaking go do it, right?
00:13:56.720 --> 00:13:57.919
And celebrate your win.
00:13:58.080 --> 00:14:02.879
Celebrate the fact that you took that courageous action because it will transform your life.
00:14:03.120 --> 00:14:05.200
I hope you guys enjoyed the story.
00:14:05.360 --> 00:14:10.159
Hope you uh it hope it just inspires you to take some courageous action.
00:14:10.240 --> 00:14:16.159
And I hope you got a good laugh out of my uh Miami, my Miami uh courageous act of approaching that girl.
00:14:16.240 --> 00:14:20.080
I thought it was funny, especially afterward, because I've never had someone speak that close to me.
00:14:20.320 --> 00:14:22.000
And uh I liked it.
00:14:22.080 --> 00:14:23.039
I'll be honest with you.
00:14:23.120 --> 00:14:24.159
She's beautiful.
00:14:24.320 --> 00:14:25.679
Um, but that is it, guys.
00:14:25.759 --> 00:14:27.120
I hope you enjoyed this episode.
00:14:27.279 --> 00:14:34.480
And uh, if you did, please leave a comment, subscribe, and uh share it with someone whom you feel could benefit from listening to this.
00:14:34.639 --> 00:14:36.960
And as always, thank you so much for tuning in.
00:14:37.039 --> 00:14:41.759
Remember, you only get one life live fully, live passionately, and most of all, live now.
00:14:41.919 --> 00:14:44.559
God bless you guys, and I will see you again soon.
