00:00:01.439 --> 00:00:08.240
Most people spend their entire lives dressed without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want and what's important.
00:00:15.039 --> 00:00:17.679
I used to live the way the comfort job and I hate it.
00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:24.079
As a result, I am my little coffee company.
00:00:24.239 --> 00:00:25.359
I'm just coffee company.
00:00:29.600 --> 00:00:30.960
I like that you find it.
00:00:31.039 --> 00:00:37.280
But it's starting to be clearly, and it starts with the host money.
00:00:40.399 --> 00:00:41.359
One line.
00:00:51.840 --> 00:00:52.719
What's going on, guys?
00:00:52.880 --> 00:00:57.359
Sorry, got a little bit of a technical malfunction there, so I got booted off.
00:00:57.520 --> 00:00:58.719
Um, but we are back.
00:00:58.799 --> 00:00:59.679
So what's going on, guys?
00:00:59.840 --> 00:01:03.119
Downing Rouse here, and today I want to talk about your day.
00:01:03.359 --> 00:01:05.760
How are you feeling day to day?
00:01:06.159 --> 00:01:11.599
We are kind of fastly approaching the end of summer, and I want to know how's it going?
00:01:12.079 --> 00:01:15.200
Like, check in with yourself and say, how is this summer going?
00:01:15.359 --> 00:01:19.120
Am I enjoying it as much as I thought I would or wanted to?
00:01:19.840 --> 00:01:23.439
Or am I feeling stressed and overwhelmed?
00:01:24.560 --> 00:01:35.040
It's extremely important to get some perspective as well as to measure where we are in our feeling of this, because this is something that often can be kind of up and down.
00:01:36.000 --> 00:01:47.599
And then when we are in that down spot where we know we're not giving ourselves the time that we want or experiencing the things that we want, to take a step back and to say, well, what can I do differently?
00:01:48.719 --> 00:01:53.599
This podcast is inspired by my own experiences of the past week.
00:01:53.680 --> 00:01:59.840
And it's usually a pattern that happens over and over every single year around this time.
00:02:00.799 --> 00:02:06.319
And uh, but before I want to go into that, again, I want to ask you those questions like how is your day-to-day experience?
00:02:06.480 --> 00:02:18.159
I know I ask this question a lot in a lot of my episodes, but today it is going to be about recognizing, bringing awareness, and then creating some things for you to look forward to.
00:02:19.759 --> 00:02:28.560
And then when you've identified what are the patterns that you go into daily, and where do you experience these off moments?
00:02:29.039 --> 00:02:30.560
To go into the story.
00:02:30.719 --> 00:02:34.080
So let me share with you a part uh something from my own life.
00:02:34.560 --> 00:02:43.120
Uh about last week, or maybe it was two weeks ago, I was approaching a very, very stressful state where everything was just building up.
00:02:43.280 --> 00:02:52.879
Like in this moment in my business, around uh August, it's one of my busiest times where all of a sudden I'm doing production every single day and I can't keep up.
00:02:53.120 --> 00:02:55.199
And right now, in my company, this is just me.
00:02:55.360 --> 00:02:56.960
I do everything.
00:02:57.919 --> 00:03:06.000
So as a result of this later time in the year, I start to get really stressed out because all of a sudden I'm left with no time.
00:03:06.080 --> 00:03:10.000
It seems like there are too many things to do and not enough time to do it in.
00:03:10.240 --> 00:03:11.439
Can you relate?
00:03:12.719 --> 00:03:16.560
So last week I was literally hit a threshold uh like a tipping point.
00:03:16.639 --> 00:03:22.560
Like I had was having trouble sleeping, and it was really starting to affect every single area of my life.
00:03:22.719 --> 00:03:30.879
I would go to the gym and not really want to work out, and then would just kind of do some like high repetitions just because I was there and it was a habit that I had built in.
00:03:31.680 --> 00:03:35.199
And then at the end of the week, I said, something needs to change here.
00:03:36.319 --> 00:03:38.639
And which brings me to the first thing I did.
00:03:38.960 --> 00:03:44.400
The first thing I did, number one, was to bring awareness to my life and what was going on.
00:03:46.400 --> 00:03:52.800
Bringing awareness to your life means noticing the patterns that are causing you to feel stressed.
00:03:54.000 --> 00:03:57.120
When I looked at my life, I realized there were several things that were happening.
00:03:57.280 --> 00:04:07.520
One was I was never allowing my time to shut down or give myself some of the uh the self-care regimens, like blocking time for myself.
00:04:08.319 --> 00:04:14.400
Often, whenever I would block the time for self-care, like the business and all the things I had to do would kind of bleed into it.
00:04:14.479 --> 00:04:16.800
And all of a sudden, there was no self-care.
00:04:17.040 --> 00:04:24.000
I would just continue to work, work, work, and then I would get to the end of the day, and I'm like, oh my God, I like my body, everything feels tense.
00:04:24.160 --> 00:04:25.439
I can't even rest.
00:04:27.120 --> 00:04:30.079
And then there was the other aspect of the thoughts.
00:04:30.560 --> 00:04:38.399
Sometimes the most draining thing that you may experience are the recurring thoughts in your head because they are what is creating the emotion.
00:04:39.279 --> 00:04:44.160
I started to look at my thoughts and quickly I realized that they were going to things that I couldn't control.
00:04:44.240 --> 00:04:48.000
They were going to what other people's perceptions of me would be.
00:04:48.319 --> 00:04:53.839
And a lot of time it was just re-thoughts that were reoccurring over and over and over and over again without capturing on paper.
00:04:54.000 --> 00:05:01.279
They just seemed to grow into this giant, like this giant in my mind, when really it was probably like a little, a little dwarf, right?
00:05:01.360 --> 00:05:07.439
Because that's what happens when you allow things to just kind of spiral in your mind, they become bigger than they really are.
00:05:08.879 --> 00:05:13.120
So recognizing all these things, I said, all right, things need to change.
00:05:13.439 --> 00:05:15.439
Which brings me to step number two.
00:05:16.000 --> 00:05:18.079
I started blocking time.
00:05:18.800 --> 00:05:28.720
And again, this is something some months you might do this really, really well, and then other months or weeks or days, you may fall off that habit and you may not do it at all.
00:05:29.839 --> 00:05:35.439
But the key, the key is to recognize when you have fallen off.
00:05:36.480 --> 00:05:43.680
So this way you can get back on and start to make the positive changes, take the positive actions that make you feel your day.
00:05:44.879 --> 00:05:48.959
So again, looking at this, I one of the things I started doing was I started taking Mondays off.
00:05:49.040 --> 00:05:50.560
I never, I never take a day off.
00:05:50.720 --> 00:05:56.560
And even when I say I'm taking a day off, my mind is always, again, thinking about my business.
00:05:57.519 --> 00:06:01.279
This happened about a couple weeks ago, maybe three weeks now.
00:06:01.439 --> 00:06:06.079
And I was like, all right, Mondays are my day because otherwise I feel like there's no room for anything.
00:06:06.240 --> 00:06:11.199
Like my mind is always spiraling around my business, and it would just leave me feeling stressed.
00:06:11.439 --> 00:06:14.399
I just wanted a day where I didn't have to think about anything.
00:06:14.639 --> 00:06:18.560
So I met with my friend Matt, and we we spoke about the idea of just giving myself a day.
00:06:18.639 --> 00:06:20.480
And I was like, okay, I'm gonna commit to it.
00:06:20.720 --> 00:06:26.000
Week one, I started to do it, but then I started, I'm like, oh, but all these things need to get done.
00:06:26.160 --> 00:06:33.040
And I started doing some coffee work, and then week two, I did a little bit less, and now we're in week three, and I gave myself the entire day off.
00:06:33.199 --> 00:06:41.040
The only reason why I'm here with you now doing this, it's because this I believe is not I believe this is part of my purpose.
00:06:41.279 --> 00:06:44.639
So it's different because it doesn't feel like an obligation to me.
00:06:44.720 --> 00:06:49.600
This is something that fills me up, which is why I put it into my Monday.
00:06:50.639 --> 00:06:58.639
Another thing I started doing was I started to block time now and keep that time for self-care practices.
00:06:58.879 --> 00:07:04.480
One of the things that brings me the most joy is when I go to watch sunrise or sunset.
00:07:05.279 --> 00:07:09.600
And then um, when I'm watching sunset, all of a sudden I did it for a couple weeks ago.
00:07:09.680 --> 00:07:13.680
I did it for a full week, and I noticed that everything felt calm.
00:07:13.839 --> 00:07:16.160
Like it carried over into the following week.
00:07:16.319 --> 00:07:17.839
All of a sudden, my mind was slower.
00:07:17.920 --> 00:07:20.959
I was observing all my thoughts and just kind of letting them flow by.
00:07:22.079 --> 00:07:26.319
But then things got busy again, and I dropped off that that habit.
00:07:26.560 --> 00:07:29.199
And all of a sudden I started to feel it in my day again.
00:07:29.519 --> 00:07:36.480
So now this is me reconnecting with that that ritual and going out to watch the sunset this week.
00:07:36.959 --> 00:07:46.560
Another thing I started doing was I started just connecting with friends, saying, Look, all right, well, I need to start doing some things that bring more joy rather than saying my day off and go read, have coffee outside.
00:07:46.639 --> 00:07:50.720
I need to add more variety into my life because variety is the spice of life.
00:07:50.959 --> 00:07:51.680
Think about it.
00:07:51.759 --> 00:07:54.399
Like when you're in your day, like what are the things that you really remember?
00:07:54.560 --> 00:07:58.959
It's not the daily walk to the coffee shop, although those might are very important.
00:08:00.000 --> 00:08:04.800
It's the things you do outside of the routine that add to the spice to your life.
00:08:05.439 --> 00:08:11.839
So recognizing that, I started to make plans with different friends to do kayaking, hiking, uh, take some day trips.
00:08:12.480 --> 00:08:17.120
Because I know one that I know that it that will bring more spice to my life.
00:08:17.199 --> 00:08:21.360
And two, if you're gonna feel fulfilled, you have to have fulfilling relationships.
00:08:21.839 --> 00:08:28.879
So I block those things out, and now those are included in this week, and I'll carry you over to the following weeks.
00:08:29.839 --> 00:08:34.720
And then a third thing I want to do is to plan something big for your future.
00:08:35.360 --> 00:08:39.600
For me, I every year in November, I do a big trip.
00:08:39.919 --> 00:08:49.279
And I hadn't planned doing, I haven't hadn't planned the trip because I wasn't in the mindset of wanting to even travel because I was just so focused on doing the work.
00:08:50.159 --> 00:08:52.639
But then I started just kind of planting the seed.
00:08:52.720 --> 00:08:55.840
All right, well, let me just start watching some travel videos of Lao.
00:08:56.320 --> 00:09:03.759
Uh, and you know, as a result of watching those travel videos, talking to different people, all of a sudden it started to build momentum, this sense of excitement in me.
00:09:04.080 --> 00:09:12.480
And then today, my my commitment to myself is to book that flight in and out of Southeast Asia where I'm gonna visit Laos and uh Sri Lanka.
00:09:13.679 --> 00:09:22.240
The reason I tell you this is because now having this event out in the future, it gives meaning to everything else that I'm doing.
00:09:22.399 --> 00:09:24.559
And I'm like, I'm smiling thinking about it.
00:09:24.720 --> 00:09:32.000
And as a result of that, now I'm excited to work because I know that there's there's there's a payoff at the end.
00:09:32.639 --> 00:09:34.960
It just makes everything easier.
00:09:36.000 --> 00:09:46.480
So in closing, I want you to, again, the most powerful thing you can do is bring awareness to your life because the things that are important aren't going to interrupt you, right?
00:09:46.559 --> 00:09:53.120
The the demands of others, the emails, all those things you got to do are gonna continue to bombard your day.
00:09:54.320 --> 00:10:10.000
But the things that matter are those quiet whispers, those things that your heart is guiding you do to maybe maybe either guard guiding you down a different path or just towards something they your heart knows is gonna make you feel better.
00:10:11.279 --> 00:10:13.120
You have to listen to that.
00:10:14.320 --> 00:10:17.360
So, in closing, I want you to again look at those three things.
00:10:17.440 --> 00:10:18.799
What was let's get awareness.
00:10:18.879 --> 00:10:22.799
What was it that you were feeling last week or yesterday, right?
00:10:22.879 --> 00:10:25.840
Because we we tend to cycle through our emotions daily.
00:10:26.000 --> 00:10:30.960
We don't we have up days, down days, up weeks, bad, down weeks, up months, down months.
00:10:31.279 --> 00:10:35.600
But usually we we tend to have this norm that we follow.
00:10:36.000 --> 00:10:47.600
So if we could bring awareness to where we call our emotional home, then we can start to make changes and and bring bring some consciousness to it so we could change it and feel better going forward.
00:10:48.799 --> 00:10:54.639
Secondly, is the blocking of time, making time for yourself every single day, not skipping a day, right?
00:10:54.720 --> 00:10:56.480
You may be like, Well, I can't I can't do it.
00:10:56.559 --> 00:10:57.600
And yes, you can.
00:10:57.840 --> 00:10:58.080
Right?
00:10:58.240 --> 00:11:02.559
The first thing you say, if you say you can't, you stop yourself right there because you can.
00:11:03.120 --> 00:11:12.559
It could be a minute before you go into your doctor's appointment where you just maybe you do a little breathing exercise, and maybe just think about something that lights you up, right?
00:11:13.039 --> 00:11:24.159
Or maybe it's uh waking up five minutes early, losing that five minutes of sleep so that you can have that five minutes with your cup of coffee, listen to my podcast, and and just remember how beautiful life really is.
00:11:25.039 --> 00:11:33.759
Or maybe you do have like some some flexibility, but you've just been in your routine where you didn't allow yourself to break out of it.
00:11:33.840 --> 00:11:35.440
And so now it's like, oh, you know what?
00:11:35.519 --> 00:11:36.639
I've always liked painting.
00:11:36.720 --> 00:11:38.879
I'm gonna go take one of these painting classes.
00:11:38.960 --> 00:11:41.039
I may not know anybody, but I'm gonna try it anyways.
00:11:41.200 --> 00:11:42.720
Or there's hiking groups, right?
00:11:42.879 --> 00:11:43.919
Oh, EMS.
00:11:44.080 --> 00:11:48.879
I think they're EMS, E Surmount Sports, or whatever the one that uh REI, that's the one.
00:11:48.960 --> 00:11:51.360
Um, they do hiking, they have groups at hike.
00:11:51.440 --> 00:11:56.639
Oh, wouldn't it be cool just to get on a group, meet some new people, and go hiking, or join a run club.
00:11:57.039 --> 00:12:07.679
Find something you're passionate about, and then just pursue that interest and start to incorporate some new things into your life as well as new people because those relationships are going to be what feed you.
00:12:07.759 --> 00:12:13.759
And lastly, as I had mentioned, plan something big, something that really, really stirs the passion inside you.
00:12:13.840 --> 00:12:14.720
For me, that's travel.
00:12:14.799 --> 00:12:17.279
You don't have to be the uh, you know, someone that travels.
00:12:17.440 --> 00:12:20.639
Maybe it's going to like a knitting show, right?
00:12:20.720 --> 00:12:23.519
And and buying new yarn because you love to knit.
00:12:23.600 --> 00:12:26.399
I I'm giving shout outs to one of my friends, my friend Lynn.
00:12:26.559 --> 00:12:30.159
You know, she loves, she doesn't like traveling, she doesn't really even like leaving home.
00:12:30.480 --> 00:12:37.440
But you give her like a store with like different colored yarns, and she is beside herself.
00:12:37.759 --> 00:12:47.440
So find what lights you up and then just spend time, maybe block like a time out in the future where you get to just focus on something that lights you up.
00:12:48.639 --> 00:12:53.440
Because the truth of the matter is that again, life is happening now.
00:12:54.639 --> 00:13:08.159
I I feel in one of the things that I find most challenging at times is always to come back to that that that intention of realizing that there isn't a moment outside of this moment right here.
00:13:09.279 --> 00:13:16.799
So this way you can really just put intention into feeling your day, into feeling your relationships, into feeling life.
00:13:18.480 --> 00:13:24.000
The biggest changes we want to experience aren't gonna come from the things external.
00:13:25.200 --> 00:13:30.320
It comes from changing our relationship and how we experience ourselves internally.
00:13:31.759 --> 00:13:36.639
Fortunately enough, like sometimes it takes experiences to bring those realizations, right?
00:13:36.720 --> 00:13:39.039
And that's just kind of like a double wet a double benefit.
00:13:39.759 --> 00:13:50.559
But I want you to really start to go inside and really understand what your heart is calling you to do, what your soul needs in order to feel fulfilled, to feel happy.
00:13:52.159 --> 00:13:57.600
And just to start to let go of the chains that you put on yourself.
00:13:58.159 --> 00:14:01.759
So this way you can experience a more full, rich, and empowering life.
00:14:02.399 --> 00:14:04.799
So I hope you enjoyed this episode here.
