WEBVTT
00:00:02.019 -->
00:00:08.410Well, hello my valued listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Living in Your Power.
00:00:09.647 -->
00:00:13.897I'm your host, Dr. Marlene Greenlee. I'm just so grateful that you've chosen
00:00:13.897 -->
00:00:16.015to spend this time with me today.
00:00:17.280 -->
00:00:24.630Now, as we continue our July theme, Living Free, Walking Daily in Purpose and Peace,
00:00:26.069 -->
00:00:31.967We've spent this month so far reflecting on the freedom that begins within and
00:00:31.967 -->
00:00:33.999the daily choice to protect our peace.
00:00:34.899 -->
00:00:38.887So today, we're exploring another step towards living freely.
00:00:39.467 -->
00:00:44.018One that can be difficult, but incredibly transformative.
00:00:44.692 -->
00:00:54.160So today's episode, the third in our July series, is titled Free to Forgive, Free to Grow.
00:00:55.802 -->
00:00:56.975So let's get into it.
00:00:59.330 -->
00:01:02.546Have you ever noticed how heavy unforgiveness can become?
00:01:03.185 -->
00:01:10.110I mean, sometimes it's obvious, but other times it quietly settles into our hearts over the years.
00:01:10.720 -->
00:01:16.564It can show up as resentment, disappointment, bitterness, or even the quiet
00:01:16.564 -->
00:01:20.106replaying of conversations we wish had gone differently.
00:01:21.691 -->
00:01:27.614Now, the interesting thing about unforgiveness is that it often keeps us connected
00:01:27.614 -->
00:01:32.517to a painful moment long after that moment has passed.
00:01:33.835 -->
00:01:39.424I mean, we think we're protecting ourselves by holding on, but often we're only
00:01:39.424 -->
00:01:41.933prolonging our own pain.
00:01:44.127 -->
00:01:49.884Now let me be clear. Forgiveness does not mean pretending something didn't happen.
00:01:49.884 -->
00:01:54.123I mean, it does not mean excusing hurtful behavior.
00:01:54.489 -->
00:01:59.927And it certainly does not mean allowing unhealthy patterns to continue.
00:02:01.222 -->
00:02:03.451Forgiveness is something much deeper.
00:02:05.041 -->
00:02:11.166It's choosing not to allow yesterday's hurt to control today's peace.
00:02:14.475 -->
00:02:19.420Now, Ephesians 4, 31-32, the King James Version says,
00:02:20.872 -->
00:02:28.576Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking be put away
00:02:28.576 -->
00:02:31.112from you with all malice.
00:02:32.017 -->
00:02:38.205And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
00:02:38.345 -->
00:02:42.936even as God, for Christ's sake, hath forgiven you.
00:02:45.195 -->
00:02:52.944Now, what stands out to me in this passage is that we're first invited to put something away.
00:02:54.274 -->
00:02:58.538That's bitterness, anger, malice.
00:02:59.618 -->
00:03:02.938Only then can forgiveness begin to take root.
00:03:04.384 -->
00:03:07.745And that's because forgiveness creates space.
00:03:09.149 -->
00:03:12.952Space for healing. Space for compassion.
00:03:14.362 -->
00:03:21.148Space for peace and perhaps that's why forgiveness feels so freeing,
00:03:23.267 -->
00:03:27.966it's because it removes the weight we've been carrying and replaces it with
00:03:27.966 -->
00:03:35.638something much lighter not because the past changes but because we do we do.
00:03:38.744 -->
00:03:43.104So now growth and forgiveness are closely connected.
00:03:44.573 -->
00:03:49.240Because it's difficult to move forward while constantly looking backwards.
00:03:50.447 -->
00:03:54.562Many times, the greatest growth in our lives, dear listeners,
00:03:54.858 -->
00:04:00.593begins when we decide that the pain we've experienced will no longer define us.
00:04:02.456 -->
00:04:08.203Instead, it will develop us. It will deepen our compassion.
00:04:09.301 -->
00:04:16.731It will strengthen our faith and increase our wisdom and remind us that healing is possible.
00:04:18.827 -->
00:04:23.383Forgiveness isn't forgetting. It's releasing.
00:04:24.632 -->
00:04:27.894It's trusting God with what we no longer need to carry.
00:04:28.956 -->
00:04:35.713It's making room for joy to return. And isn't that what living free is really about?
00:04:36.131 -->
00:04:45.019I mean, choosing not to remain imprisoned by yesterday so we can fully embrace today.
00:04:45.727 -->
00:04:48.635That, for me, is living free.
00:04:50.167 -->
00:04:55.606What about you? Tell me, tell me, what do you consider is living free?
00:04:57.550 -->
00:05:04.006Now, let's return to these words. It says, be kind one to another.
00:05:04.824 -->
00:05:07.285Tender hearted forgiving one another.
00:05:09.740 -->
00:05:16.561Hmm. Forgiveness begins with the heart. And sometimes the first person we need
00:05:16.561 -->
00:05:19.330to forgive is ourselves.
00:05:21.466 -->
00:05:25.175So I want you to take a few moments this week and reflect on these.
00:05:26.290 -->
00:05:29.280I want you to ask yourself these questions, write them down,
00:05:30.423 -->
00:05:34.168journal them, and get your response.
00:05:35.997 -->
00:05:41.848Is there someone I need to forgive? Is there something I need to release?
00:05:43.351 -->
00:05:48.871Have I extended the same grace to myself that I so freely offer others?
00:05:49.781 -->
00:05:53.253And what might become possible if I laid this burden down?
00:05:54.605 -->
00:05:56.899So I will repeat those prompts for you again.
00:05:58.826 -->
00:06:00.474I want you to reflect on these.
00:06:02.663 -->
00:06:09.785Ask yourself is there someone I need to forgive is there something I need to release,
00:06:11.830 -->
00:06:19.751have I extended the same grace to myself that I so fully offer others and what
00:06:19.751 -->
00:06:22.905might become possible if I laid this burden down,
00:06:25.680 -->
00:06:34.050I want you to remember forgiveness doesn't erase the past It frees your future.
00:06:37.418 -->
00:06:38.823So in closing today,
00:06:41.679 -->
00:06:45.975I want you to remember again, like I said, freedom isn't only found in what we gain.
00:06:47.205 -->
00:06:51.040Sometimes it's found in what we're willing to release.
00:06:53.223 -->
00:06:56.723So as you move through this week, I encourage you to ask yourself,
00:06:57.977 -->
00:07:01.303what am I still carrying that God meant for me to hold?
00:07:04.490 -->
00:07:09.309You don't have to carry resentment. You don't have to carry bitterness.
00:07:10.510 -->
00:07:12.397You don't even have to carry regret.
00:07:14.092 -->
00:07:21.400Why? Because there is freedom in forgiveness. And in that freedom, there is room to grow.
00:07:24.947 -->
00:07:28.464I'm going to leave you with this today. So I want to thank you for joining me
00:07:28.464 -->
00:07:30.880for episode 3 of our July series.
00:07:31.269 -->
00:07:35.176Living free, walking daily in purpose and peace.
00:07:36.366 -->
00:07:43.244So next week we'll conclude our July journey with living lightly releasing what
00:07:43.244 -->
00:07:47.597we were never meant to carry so until next time dear listeners,
00:07:48.642 -->
00:07:56.148I want you to continue to live boldly in your power today and if it gets tough just breathe.
00:08:00.710 -->
00:08:06.098Because you've still got the strength to rise and remember,
00:08:07.572 -->
00:08:17.064there's freedom in forgiveness and in that freedom there's room to grow so until
00:08:17.064 -->
00:08:22.415next time continue to live in your power.
