WEBVTT
00:00:02.234 -->
00:00:08.823Well, hello, my valued listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Living in Your Power.
00:00:09.879 -->
00:00:16.195I am your host, Dr. Marlene Greenleaf, and as always, you know I am truly grateful
00:00:16.520 -->
00:00:20.404that you've chosen to spend this time with me today.
00:00:21.744 -->
00:00:26.661Now, as we continue our August series, Moving with Intention,
00:00:27.137 -->
00:00:29.970Purposeful Steps into What's next?
00:00:31.207 -->
00:00:37.017Last week, we talked about taking the next step without needing to see the entire map.
00:00:37.679 -->
00:00:43.769And we reflected on trusting God enough to move with what we know,
00:00:44.187 -->
00:00:47.008even when we don't have every answer.
00:00:48.146 -->
00:00:54.740But today, today I want to add something important to that conversation.
00:00:55.762 -->
00:01:01.542Because once we decide to move, there can be a temptation to rush.
00:01:02.848 -->
00:01:09.036Yes. We think, now that I know where I'm going, I need to get there quickly.
00:01:09.977 -->
00:01:17.424And we start pushing, we start striving, and we're trying to make things happen.
00:01:17.854 -->
00:01:26.503And before long, before long, what began as an intentional step becomes an exhausting race.
00:01:27.804 -->
00:01:33.522So today we're talking about something I believe many of us need to practice.
00:01:35.019 -->
00:01:39.385And that is moving forward without abandoning our peace.
00:01:40.221 -->
00:01:49.340So today's episode the second in our August series is titled move at the pace of peace.
00:01:50.478 -->
00:01:54.077Move at the pace of peace.
00:01:56.329 -->
00:02:01.403So let's get into this. I said, when did everything become urgent? Hmm?
00:02:02.134 -->
00:02:06.981Have you noticed how much of life seems to come with a sense of urgency?
00:02:07.730 -->
00:02:15.875It's respond now, decide now, achieve now, grow now, post now, build now.
00:02:16.043 -->
00:02:18.011I mean, figure it out right now.
00:02:18.818 -->
00:02:27.339Everything is now, right now. We're surrounded by messages that tell us faster is better.
00:02:27.833 -->
00:02:35.153And if we're not careful, if we're not careful, we will begin measuring our progress by speed.
00:02:36.047 -->
00:02:41.875Someone else launched the business. Someone else received the promotion.
00:02:42.281 -->
00:02:46.287Someone else wrote the book. And someone else reached the milestone.
00:02:46.287 -->
00:02:51.326And suddenly, suddenly we're no longer walking our own journey.
00:02:52.278 -->
00:02:54.762Because we're raising someone else's.
00:02:56.182 -->
00:02:59.787And that's where comparison becomes dangerous.
00:03:01.401 -->
00:03:05.250Because comparison doesn't simply make us question where we are.
00:03:06.010 -->
00:03:09.029It can make us question our pace.
00:03:10.549 -->
00:03:16.854Because we begin thinking, hmm, maybe I'm moving too slowly.
00:03:18.189 -->
00:03:24.580Oh, maybe I should be further along. Or maybe I'm running out of time.
00:03:26.315 -->
00:03:32.683And that's when pressure begins making decisions for us. But here's something
00:03:32.683 -->
00:03:34.018I've come to understand.
00:03:35.498 -->
00:03:39.440Urgency and purpose are not the same thing.
00:03:40.322 -->
00:03:45.483I want to say that again. Urgency and purpose are not the same thing.
00:03:46.197 -->
00:03:50.498Because everything that feels urgent is not necessarily important.
00:03:51.323 -->
00:03:55.397And everything important does not have to be rushed.
00:03:55.971 -->
00:04:04.534I mean, sometimes the most intentional thing you can do is slow down long enough to hear you clearly.
00:04:08.655 -->
00:04:13.121Our Bible verse today is taken from Psalm 46, 10.
00:04:13.816 -->
00:04:17.961It says to be still and know that I am God.
00:04:19.551 -->
00:04:25.397Be still enough to know. This is such a short scripture.
00:04:25.821 -->
00:04:30.261And yet, there is so much power in it. It says to be still.
00:04:32.078 -->
00:04:38.737Not because nothing needs to be done. Not because responsibilities disappear.
00:04:39.532 -->
00:04:45.551Not because life suddenly becomes quiet, but because stillness allows us to
00:04:45.551 -->
00:04:50.602remember who it actually, who is actually in control.
00:04:51.483 -->
00:04:55.512I mean, the verse doesn't say be still until you figure everything out.
00:04:56.986 -->
00:05:03.790It clearly says, be still and know that I am God.
00:05:04.800 -->
00:05:05.984So there's a difference.
00:05:07.087 -->
00:05:10.883Stillness isn't inactivity it's trust,
00:05:12.613 -->
00:05:19.561it's creating enough internal quiet to hear beyond the noise because when everything
00:05:19.561 -->
00:05:22.197around us is shouting hurry,
00:05:23.968 -->
00:05:25.756God may be saying wait,
00:05:27.648 -->
00:05:30.173and when fear says do something.
00:05:32.176 -->
00:05:41.961Wisdom may be saying not yet and when precious is you're falling behind God
00:05:41.961 -->
00:05:46.474may simply be reminding you to stay with me,
00:05:48.819 -->
00:05:53.590And that's why peace can become such an important part of discernment.
00:05:54.536 -->
00:06:02.204Peace doesn't always tell us what to do. But it can help us recognize how we're doing it.
00:06:03.168 -->
00:06:04.932And are we moving from trust?
00:06:05.972 -->
00:06:08.874Or are we moving from panic?
00:06:10.912 -->
00:06:15.962Are we responding thoughtfully? Or simply reacting?
00:06:17.024 -->
00:06:22.040So sometimes the pace itself tells us what is leading us.
00:06:26.174 -->
00:06:30.174So I want to say this, peace is not passivity.
00:06:32.220 -->
00:06:39.730I want to make something very clear. Moving at the pace of peace does not mean
00:06:39.730 -->
00:06:41.917moving slowly all the time.
00:06:43.183 -->
00:06:46.532There will be seasons when things happen quickly.
00:06:47.031 -->
00:06:51.069Opportunities can arrive unexpectedly, doors can open suddenly,
00:06:51.894 -->
00:06:56.166and sometimes you will need to make a decision and move.
00:06:57.838 -->
00:07:03.364So peace isn't about speed. It's about alignment.
00:07:04.125 -->
00:07:08.920You see the difference? I mean, you can move quickly and still be peaceful.
00:07:09.587 -->
00:07:15.212And you can move slowly while being completely consumed by anxiety.
00:07:15.711 -->
00:07:21.203So the question isn't how fast I'm moving.
00:07:22.149 -->
00:07:26.160The question is, what is driving my movement?
00:07:27.310 -->
00:07:34.067That's the difference. When we're driven by fear, we often feel the need to force things.
00:07:34.583 -->
00:07:41.650I mean, we chase, we overcommit, we say yes before we've had time to discern,
00:07:41.650 -->
00:07:46.616And we convince ourselves that if we don't grab an opportunity immediately,
00:07:46.924 -->
00:07:48.357we'll never receive another one.
00:07:50.157 -->
00:07:53.936But when we're moving from peace, something changes.
00:07:56.158 -->
00:07:59.485We can pause. We can pray.
00:08:01.081 -->
00:08:05.725We can ask questions. We can gather information.
00:08:06.433 -->
00:08:09.185And we can say, let me think about that.
00:08:11.106 -->
00:08:17.796And perhaps most importantly, we can walk away from something that doesn't feel
00:08:17.796 -->
00:08:20.580aligned, even if it looks good on paper.
00:08:21.613 -->
00:08:25.648And that, my dear listeners, that is freedom.
00:08:26.890 -->
00:08:33.380Because not every opportunity is an assignment. Not every open door requires you to walk through.
00:08:33.943 -->
00:08:37.838And not every delay means you've missed your moment.
00:08:38.906 -->
00:08:46.656Sometimes peace is the confirmation. And sometimes the absence of peace is the
00:08:46.656 -->
00:08:48.274invitation to look again.
00:08:51.949 -->
00:08:55.696So let's return to today's scripture briefly. Again, it says,
00:08:55.696 -->
00:08:59.223be still and know that I am God.
00:09:00.587 -->
00:09:06.496Now, maybe the stillness you need is a physical stillness. Maybe you don't need
00:09:06.496 -->
00:09:08.598to stop everything you're doing.
00:09:10.641 -->
00:09:15.372Maybe you simply need to quiet what's happening inside you.
00:09:16.011 -->
00:09:21.148The pressure, the comparison, the expectations, the fear that you're behind.
00:09:22.570 -->
00:09:28.596The belief that everything must happen immediately and then ask yourself what
00:09:28.596 -->
00:09:33.304would this decision look like if I made it from peace instead of pressure?
00:09:36.068 -->
00:09:43.340That's how I pile my question for this week. So I want you to take a few moments and reflect on this.
00:09:45.128 -->
00:09:48.425Where am I currently feeling rushed?
00:09:50.893 -->
00:09:56.529Is that urgency coming from God or from fear, pressure, or comparison?
00:09:57.603 -->
00:10:01.794Have I committed to something before giving myself time to discern it?
00:10:03.315 -->
00:10:07.321What would change if I allowed peace to determine my pace?
00:10:08.458 -->
00:10:14.112And where might God be asking me to simply be still long enough to hear?
00:10:15.802 -->
00:10:20.424So I'm going to repeat these prompts for you again. I want you to reflect on
00:10:20.424 -->
00:10:24.254these. Where am I currently feeling rushed?
00:10:26.407 -->
00:10:30.291Is that urgency coming from God? Or from fear?
00:10:31.260 -->
00:10:38.614Pressure or comparison have I committed to something before giving myself time
00:10:38.614 -->
00:10:44.547to discern it what would change if I allowed peace to determine my pace,
00:10:46.387 -->
00:10:51.356and where might God be asking me to simply be still long enough to hear and then,
00:10:53.277 -->
00:10:55.170then I want you to breathe.
00:10:57.909 -->
00:11:03.998You don't have to solve everything in that moment. You don't have to respond immediately.
00:11:05.595 -->
00:11:10.643You don't have to know what comes next. And sometimes the most powerful thing
00:11:10.643 -->
00:11:17.141you can say is, I'll give myself time to discern this.
00:11:18.499 -->
00:11:25.140I mean, there is wisdom in the pause. There is wisdom in the pause.
00:11:26.725 -->
00:11:32.031So in closing my friends as you move through this week I want you to remember,
00:11:32.605 -->
00:11:40.689that you are allowed to move at the pace of peace you don't have to match someone else's timeline,
00:11:41.438 -->
00:11:47.011you don't have to rush because the world tells you that faster is better,
00:11:47.969 -->
00:11:53.437and you don't have to manufacture urgency when God has given you room to breathe.
00:11:55.602 -->
00:12:01.303Move when it's time to move. Pause when it's time to pause.
00:12:01.933 -->
00:12:04.449Act when action is required.
00:12:05.395 -->
00:12:08.455And rest when rest is needed.
00:12:09.552 -->
00:12:14.434But through it all, through it all, I want you to remember to stay connected.
00:12:15.827 -->
00:12:18.909Stay discerning. Stay grounded.
00:12:20.401 -->
00:12:25.167Because purposeful movement isn't measured by how quickly you arrive,
00:12:26.607 -->
00:12:30.392it's measured by whether you remain aligned along the way.
00:12:33.213 -->
00:12:38.152I want to thank you for joining me for Episode 2 of our August series,
00:12:38.448 -->
00:12:43.167Moving with Intention, Purposeful Steps into What's Next.
00:12:44.050 -->
00:12:51.184So next week, we'll continue with When Preparation Meets Opportunity.
00:12:52.142 -->
00:12:58.070We'll talk about the work that happens before the door opens and why preparation
00:12:58.070 -->
00:13:02.806is never wasted even when we don't yet know where it will lead.
00:13:03.879 -->
00:13:09.940So until next time, I want you to continue to live boldly in your power today.
00:13:10.909 -->
00:13:14.357And if it gets tough, just breathe.
00:13:17.928 -->
00:13:29.479You still got the strength to rise. So until next time, continue to live in your power.
